Its been anything but normal winter this year.

Gimme sn*w or rain, not both or add ice in the same storm followed by cold. Spells trouble for inclined driveways like mine.

As I have no Ford experience I googled sync 2 to sync 3 upgrade to see what's involved.

You must have done something wrong because the first hit says its easy peasy

It's on the interwebs so it must be true  :zip:

I'm doing the same this weekend. Picked up a Ryzen 7 2700X & a MSI B450 motherboard for $230. Have memory, SSDs & a GTX 1080 (all used from my pile o' parts), a new PSU, ordered a cheap case.
Used to use AMD CPUs a lot (Athlons, Phenom II Black editions) & Radeon GPUs up until about 7-8 years ago when Intel & nVidia became just superior to what AMD was putting out. 2nd gen Ryzens, given how prices are being slashed 50% or more, are the best bang for the buck if you're building a system right now.

I'm playing with (Socs) ARM systems with flash based file systems. Those and oddball parts on hand cobble together a usable system.

Got the same 2700X and MSI B450 mb at Microcenter in Boston for the just about same price. Ordered a new PSU as well and a 1650 gpu.

My current rig is Phenom II based.

Glad to see AMD back with Ryzen. The Piledriver, Bulldozer etc processors didnt live up to expectations. When I built my current, I bought a mb that would support the CPU families after Phenom and the best chipset at the time but never utilized it due to the cpu shortcomings.

This time, sticking to the B450 (solid performer and not expensive) and not the fancy chipsets that cost $$$$ and I would likely not utilize.

Sn*wblowing this afternoon and picked up a rock or something by the road. Shear bolt broke like it should but auger tranny making chachunk cachunk noise after.

Still worked and almost no noise by the time I finished but sounds like a tooth broke on the driven gear in the auger tranny :headbang:

Will look into it a bit and see if I can get thru the winter like it is then tear it apart in the summer. It had no issues throwing sn*w, so may hope for the best. Although my luck doesnt really lend to a good outcome..........

Hope it is just the shear bolt G and the clunking was just the rock trying to make its way out the chute!

Another sloppy mess to try to move; barely got the blower thru the berm at the end of the driveway and at my mailbox, because the salt, drizzle and meltage made it just glop out of the chute instead of blow. I didn't do the drive to the tent garage, which is about 1.-1/2 times the area of my regular driveway but figured the truck could handle it. Looking out this morning, that might have been a mistake with the massive icing and glaze out there. At least this is my off-Friday so I only have to go to the dump later today.

Tomorrow I'm working 9-4 at a membership recruiting table for a group I belong to (no, not political) so need to get my regular Saturday chores done today. One of those chores will be to spread some sand on all the pathways. Hmm, maybe I'll empty the ash pans in some of those areas (away from the house so won't get spread inside)

Thanks B-Me to on a hopeful obstruction!

At first, I tried to see if anything was lodged but did not see anything. When rotating the auger by hand there was a spot that felt "off".
At that point I figured if the tranny was buggered I may as well do the job and deal with the fallout later. The noise sounded awful but there was no issue with the operation so away I went.
By the time I was finished I couldnt hear anything and the auger rotation by hand felt ok so maybe it was something I couldnt see.

I looked into repairs last night if needed. It doesnt look like an auger tranny assembly is available, I would have to rebuild it. Good news is that the auger assembly comes off in one piece without having to remove the front end like almost all other brands. At least Honda did good on this part

The front cover comes off the tranny and it looks lie I can get that off without removing the assembly first so maybe I can see if everything looks ok. I would just need to order a gasket o put the cover back on as it likely will be damaged when the cover is removed.

There is also, if its working, dont screw with it for now thoughts in my head. But I am not convinced its completely in the clear. Time will tell.
