If any of you get holes in your britches/pants where you hold the wood at the splitter, give this carhartt apron a try.

I just leave it under my log splitter cover and only wear it at the splitter. So far so good

I often have my chaps on, I think it helps save my pants

I wear double knee jeans, logging jeans, when I work firewood. Actually, I wear them most of the time. I have had to patch them above the double knee section after years of hard use. I'll look into the apron. I have a similar apron for blacksmithing, but its a full front apron and hangs down to the knees.

I know I usually wait till I get an older pullover hooded sweatshirt & cut the pockets off the front of it. They always fill with wood cutting garbage ( sawdust from saws, bark from splitting etc.) I used to blow the pockets out with the compressor but could never get d as ll the stuff out & it would wind up in the bottom of the wash machine. Not good. I like the apron idea!! That would probably keep the majority of debris out of sweatshirt pockets & would not need laundering.

I wear chaps as mentioned most of the time. I am on my second pair and they have saved many pairs of jeans over the years.

I split vertically; no wear and tear on clothing. Just one more plus of vertical splitting. :D

Your welcome Jack Straw. Carhartt bibs fit me better than Roundhouse but I much prefer to buy American made. Roundhouse bibs have a little extra material around the crotch which can look funny when sitting but the older I get the more I value function than looks. The price, especially when on sale, is good.

What I like so far is the apron is small and doesn’t mess with flexibility but covers my pants where the rounds normally touch and start creating holes

As far as wearing out your pants, try buying the double front pants; they worked well for me while I was in the trades.

I know some of Carhartt products are not American made. The last time I went to buy Carhartt bibs they were not American made. I think they might have some American made products.
