why not just put the pallet on the forks and drive them in with the machine? is the floor of the building not strong enough?

That likely depends on what exactly you're attempting to accomplish.

Floor is strong enough but its a foot off the ground. Besides there's only 5-1/2 feet of width available so I'd only be able to get in 5 skids at most. On the rolling carts I can get 8.

Bldg is a kiln, Nyle L200M. So the 8 crates (2 shown) amounts to 2 full cords to be finished off drying.

    Yes,
it is. I built it last year for drying lumber and firewood. 10ft x 20ft building. Sawed my own lumber. Spray foamed. Here's a few pics of the building of it.

Depends on how much air drying the wood has on it already. If its been sitting out all the summer of 2019 up to now, its (maple, birch mostly) still about 35% MC inside. So a couple days with the heat on should get it below 20%.

Put some solar panels on the roof and you've got... a solar kiln?

Iv been thinking about something like that for fun. But after seeing the shrink wrap kiln experiments that was impressive

I don't worry about it. Cut what I can when I can and burn it when it's dry. Whether it dries much in winter doesn't matter to me. It will dry eventually and I'd much rather be cutting in winter than when it's 100 degrees and humid.

My recent experience is that wood does some seasoning in the winter.

I have been buying firewood from sellers who claim their wood is "dry." Some of it may have been felled a few years back in the winter but they only cut and split it right before they deliver it. As I have shared other places, I learned about seasoning wood the hard way and am not working on building up a stock so at least have the wood delivered and stacked by early spring so it has a good summer to dry.

We don't always have very good drying weather here in this part of the state in the Summer. It can be so muggy humid that we put clothes and (beach) towels out on the clothes line to dry and three days later they are still wet and starting to smell moldy. I doubt much wood drying is happening then.
