I posted a couple days ago about putting wood in the barn for what we'll burn this winter. Although there was just a tad more I could have put in, I had finished getting one stack and said that was enough. Just a bit shy of 2 1/2 cord there. But I've already put some on the porch and will probably load that one more time and it should work out close to 3 cord or a little shy of it when all is said and done. Excuse the mess in the barn as I was too tired to straighten up. Oh, and I did work through a couple snow showers. Too warm to stick though. The picture below is from a few days ago. Picture below is when I was just getting started. There are 3 rows left. Those are actually 16' rows and on the back side there is only 1 row left now. It will burn nicely next winter. And below is wood put on the porch a while back. Actually quite a bit of it has been burned already.
Sure did. I took Casper for a walk in the woods and it was snowing the whole time. We didn't go far, but I wanted to check on a Maple that snapped about 16' up. It's actually just started again. Time to take the mowing deck off the GT and put on the plow.
Guess I beat you this year. Took the mower deck off last week. Snow plow is not on but it takes only a few minutes to fix that.
Nice work Dennis! It's always interesting to see the variance in color in the splits from really weathered grey to almost fresh cut wood color depending on where they were facing in the stack. That just shows that color, or weathering, is not necessarily a good gauge of "seasoned".
Yes they are Mitch. Good eye. I tried to talk the wife into moving them when we built the porch as I wanted it much larger. Answer then was no. Now she wishes she had moved them and had a larger porch....
Glad you got it done. Keep exercising so next year you will be off to a good start. I think I have done well when I get through the winter without getting hurt when I fall on the ice. I try hard to protect myself but usually go down 2 to 3 times.
No problem on the exercise. There is always work to do. It just seems to take much longer as we grow a bit in age.
Not trying to get off topic here, but im guessing your winch switch is on the handlebars, is the windshield mounted there as well? I just know that the grizzlys had a lot of stuff taking up space on the handlebars, leaving minimal room for anything.
Yes, the winch switch and windshield are on the handlebars. I thought I'd like that windshield and the shape is nice if you can keep it that way. Trouble is, the rubber washers wear out and then my wife also backed out of the barn without the door being all the way up. Whoops. I'll have to replace it eventually and I even broke off one of the set screws when installing it this fall. So, I'll be looking. I had bought an after market windshield for our Kodiak but did not like it as well as it was too small. Even looked cheap.
Nice work Dennis, glad to hear you got it ready to go! Now you can sit back and enjoy the flames...... I got a fire going tonight, 59° in the house when I got home for work, 75° right now.
