Ok, I know a log arch doesn’t work this way LOL Just trying a different method today. Buck most of the way through. Pick up log and move well out of the way. Cut off any possible rounds. Drop and cut the last few rounds. Not the fastest method but I havent cut the ground yet.
That last photo looks like you are building an airplane! That spar wight be a little more stout than needed, but I see you have lightened it up a bit with a few cuts ...
Never ask a mason to build an airplane. It won’t fly. It won’t even float. Chances are good it will be immovable.
When you drag them out of the woods you could place some rounds under the log before dropping and be on your way. Then when your ready to cut they are all off the ground already . Big time saver. When I was bigbawlin firewood haulin back in the day I wood skid out a big drag of tops and cut them up from the small end to back of skidder then the second drag I would drive right over cut up wood and do the same until there were a couple cord and then blade them into a pile
Your absolutely right. As it turns out it was a big score. 80 big oaks on the side of the road, mid August,,,,,,2018 :0 I just wanted to get them home before the town took them away. Only thing on my mind was jus keepa go LOL My brain doesn’t work in the heat. Even thought I would process them right away but the wood just kept coming from other places. I don’t really even need to move these logs to get in there with a splitter. Almost did but I stopped stacking in that area when I realized I was about to box myself in. Cleared myself another stacking area for this wood that’ll be at least three years out. This was a concept I had thought up early spring and wanted to give it a shot. I’ve cut them right out of the log arch as I transport them the normal way. That works too, to a point. Now that you mention it tho I have some tall straight Trees of Heaven that will be getting cleared from a fencerow soon. It’ll be interesting to see how long they last as poles.

I pride myself with that and so much so my therapist refuses to see me anymore and has put the word out on me! Been busy with work, but may go cut some locust today. Not much, but enough to get my fix! Gonna SS some red oak later too.
My thought exactly, seriously, its a great idea to use the arch like you do, anything to save your back, or your chain is a great thing!!
