Well the petrified wood split nice with the maul when i split it for the pic. I just got done splitting the truckload and the pieces closer to the stump werent dried out. They were stringy as hell and a PIA TO SPLIT. Elm is the winner i guess. I love the really dry petrified stuff.
Bark reminds me of hemlock and tupelo as mr.finn stated, but the way its peeling off and there is no rot, id say elm The nice clean split threw me but i dont have much experience with elm. One of my "taboo" woods as i hand split. Nice wood regardless! Did you put a MM to it Woodwhore ?
