Nice haul and good way to get the blood pumping a bit Midwinter ....Beats going to Bally's or planet fitness or whatever.

Your NH landscape looks a bit more winter white then down here in the tropics haha. Today its like early spring with muddy ground everywhere and breezy. I took the dog to the vet this morning and scrounged up some zombie wood on the way back home stopping at various roadside locations. One good 7 inch diameter long dead dry whole maple tree downed about 17 ft long I cut up to fit my in the cargo, the rest was fallen punky oak branches and not worthy enough to post here. Given the forecast for the next few days I wont be needing my stored primo seasoned wood and I can burn this garbage till the next polar freeze.

Our snow and ice is melting today, I'm working outside in a t-shirt. They're starting to talk about a snowstorm next weekend, though.

Dragging this thread up from the depths again... here's my "I swore I'd never scrounge Pin Oak again" scrounge... I committed to take this before I realized what it was... and the people were really nice, and they really wanted it gone, so I didn't feel good about disappointing them.
This is the second load... IMG_20200114_32536.jpg
    and the full hoard...

I'm going to let it marinate until I get a splitter. Should be ready to burn in about 4 years.

I've planted quite a few pin oaks (even though they are not indigenous to this area) for shade, to be green, yada, yada, yada and watching them grow with branches like pine trees I can only imagine what a bear they are going to be to split some day, if someone splits them. I doubt it will be me so good luck to whomever.

Been hitting my golf course stash last few days. We CSS 3 trees worth of perfect red oak. I’m being a snob and only bringing home 30 pieces of Perfect 4-5” splits at a time. Within a few more weeks I will be at my goal of 2 cords of perfect knotless red oak in my yard

Yes. I'm all done there. Left some, but it's all cut up so they can move it. I passed so much cut wood on the way there! Asplundh has been busy.

Midwinter you have depression era mentality as you just cant let anything go to waste ...No, not on your watch to quote Ricky Gervais at TGG. I've done the same with wood like willow and also with cigars believe it or not. I have more cigars in my collection than I can ever smoke and there are some I swore I wouldn't smoke again because they are real "dog rockets" or "turd sticks" as we say..... And lets face it, life's to short to waste another hour smoking a cigar that's sub par. Yet because I can't just chuck them out or give them away (I wouldn't give away crap smokes to friends I care about), they sit in one of my many humidors. Every once in a while I smoke one telling myself the aging time in the humidor has improved them. :sherlock::loco:
