Often we get calls from odd numbers and sometimes I get curious as to where these calls come from. So today we got another. This particular call we have received numerous times and of course, never answer. The phone says the call comes from an invalid number. The area code is 311.

Here is what I found when I googled it:

These fools are, unfortunately, very good at shifting phone #’s.... I don’t get how we (phone carriers, really) can’t block all this crap!

The problem I have with most of the automated ones are for a business like us we live and die by the phone and when I get one for my Google listing or Extended car warranty after I hang up the recording keeps going for 10 to 15 seconds keeping my customers from getting through to us.
    Burns me up!

If I cannot identify who is calling I do not pick up the phone, plain & simple. The people who need to have my number are given a alternative # to reach me. The rest of those fools can kiss my arse !!!! System works great this way.

    Get them as well.

Unfortunately it seems the factory warranty has lapsed on the '96 Eldo.
    :(

Got one that was in (likely) Chinese.. had a laugh about that one.

    No food showed up though.

I'm so glad Congress made all that illegal.
    After all, laws stop criminals.

If that last line needs edited out.. lemme know.

I don't like the calls either. Don't know about the rest of the nation, but I believe in Michigan you can sign up for a no call list (that does not work) but the calls excluded from the do not call list are...…...you guessed it...…..political! And these next few months will be busy!

I would like to take the time to comment further on the scams out there but I'm busy now wiring some $$ to Africa to help out some royal prince. But it will all be paid back 100 fold!

That and oh yeah, there's the news we got today that one of the kids was down in Mexico and needs bail money. Didn't even know they were traveling.....

Same for some vehicle I had at some point in the past......they never mention which one on the message.
We used to get one for a Charles Barkley......didn't he used to play BBall? He owed someone money or something. They finally gave up for a year or so, then started again.
I'm like rotti, if I don't know the number, I don't answer. If they don't leave a message, it couldn't have been too important. Wife answers Waaaay too much.:picard:

Guess me and Jack Straw have something in common.

Sometimes I answer them just out of curiosity.

I like the one where there's a woman's voice saying "Hello!!!"

But if you don't say anything then the rest of the message doesn't play.

I think the con's have way too much free time.
    Get a job!!

I must confess that prior invoking my current form of nuisance control for that nonsense, I used to keep one of those boat horns powered by a small can of freon. I'd let them get right into reading their little spiel and I would give them about a 3 sec. blast of that horn right thru the receiver. It too was a effective control measure..........

Son would answer and let them get into the spiel, then put the phone down and walk away. If they were still there when he walked back by, he'd mutter something into the phone.....which kept 'em going.
  I told him he should stop so his sister could tie up the line for several hours talking to friends. :picard::headbang:

Some great come-backs. But methinks most simply don't answer the phones if they don't know who is calling. Best way.

    Same here.
What I do is all advertising is a landline #. Landlines get remote call forwarding to cell phones. I can then block all these #s on cell phones from getting through.
It took about 4 years but I get maybe 2/day vs 30+ .

iPhone is now showing some calls as "potential spam".
So far, they've all been numbers I don't know.
