Anyone know what type of tree this is, I have 2 of them in my yard. I'm in southeastern VA. Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Is it loaded with white flowers in spring? Bark reminds me of Bradfor pear, "the worst tree ever" -- Bradford Pears Threaten Forests' Native Species - CityLab Although, your tree looks real big for a Bradfor pear. BTW, you would get far more comments if your title gave a clue about what your thread is about beyond "any idea?" Sorry, pet peeve of mine, lol.
Just looking at the branch structure and bark I would say Pear. You also mentioned white flowers(which smell), also pear. Usually Bradfords have tighter branching with a lot of included bark causing branches to fail.
Thanks everyone, I'm thinking bradford pear also, I honestly can't remember if it has white flowers in the spring or not. I read somewhere else that Bradford pear was actually a good firewood. Next time I'll add what kind of tree is this? To the "any idea" title. Thanks for the help! Sent from my SM-G975U using Tapatalk
Pear was my initial thought too, though I always knew them as Flowering Pear. If it was this, you wouldn't have any question about the flowers, they're large & dramatic. Give us something more to go on. Color of the leaves in fall, is it among the first to leaf out in spring or loose it's leaves in fall way before/after others? Any fruit, seeds, flowers? When? Post a pic of the leaves on the ground under it.
Not pecan. Looks like Bradford pear. Might be "Himalayan pear". Put a saw to it and you will find Himalayan on the ground...
I vote Bradford as well. If so, it’ll probably be firewood sooner than later. My experience they only get so big before falling over on their own. My county has a program to remove all of them from county roadsides and any other county owned lands. Considered invasive
That was one of my first thoughts...if its a bradford, its made it through pretty good to have kept that form and not be broke up..
