Reminds me of the storm we had here in Connecticut February 2013, i think it was named "Nemo". We got 36" of snow with drifting. GF and i were stuck in her apt for four days. Two hours of shoveling just to get to the cars. Apartment was on a dead end street. Town came with a payloader to clear road next day, but landlord couldnt get anyone to plow. Driveway was a long uphill dog leg shape. Small apt but we made it. My cat was "stranded" in my apt. No worse for wear when i got back. Be safe and stay warm! Thanks for sharing. Some amazing pics!
You have to upload videos to the Internet. Youtube is usually used. After uploading it then you can copy the address and paste that address in here.
That’s against the law...... Dumping snow in St. John’s harbour violates federal law, but alternatives are too costly, city councillor says | The Telegram
My grandfather explained to me how the town used to do it. They removed the center boards from the bridge and then drove over the river and pulled the center boards from the wagon and dumped straight into the river. My team of horses doesn't standstill well, guess that would teach them or it removes the non standing gene from the pool as they didn't survive to breed! Take a special team and teamster to drive across a bridge missing its center portion!
Yes, so snow gets dumped in fields next to rivers and it still ends up in the ocean. How do you govern all of it?
It's supposed to be dumped into the landfill. But for this storm permission has been given to dump it in the harbor.
I work in a modern day general store with a food section occupying a small minority of the square footage. Wonder if we'll be open and if I'll have to walk
We're allowed to drive directly to the store and home, carpooling advised where possible. Guess I don't have to walk to work. I will never buy a house downtown.....
When the town of Grand Forks, BC flooded, the military showed up in time to get the glory. Are they actually working clearing snow? I guess there is enough to go around so no one feels left out.
Most dangerous part of working those rigs is the Helo ride out or back. I wouldn't be able to resist keeping SCUBA gear out there with me.
Sorry Sav. Im with you but I don’t have an answer for you. Easy for people to clearly establish cause and effect when it fits an agenda. Read an article (for some reason, the forum wouldn't let me post a link) about some birds that were found dead in NL with plastic in their bellies. Mentioned how many dead birds were picked up but didn't mention how many of them had plastic in their bellies and of those that did, how many died from that. Also, no mention of confirmation that the source of the plastic was from dumping snow in the harbor.. Just says that plastic could be in the snow dumped in the harbor. So, what's the other option?. leave the snow in place, and more people have heart attacks shoveling it and more kids get hit by cars waiting for the school bus or walking to school...
Yeah, some tough decisions have to be made sometimes. But, decisions still have to be made; sometimes they are right and sometimes they are wrong. I remember driving it into my boys when they would always hesitate for way too long: "Make a decision and go with it! It will be right or wrong. If it is right, you did excellent. If it is wrong, you will fix it and learn from it."
Yes. Mainly shovelling people trapped in their house. Elderly, sick, disabled. Call a phone number and they will show up with shovels.
