No, I didn't get nearly the sky-view that swags had, but this is an 8' ladder. This big, spreading double-trunk White Ash had a few dead limbs on the bottom, seemed like it would be some easy pickings (I got another one off the back, not visible in the pic.) All told, it turned out to be a pretty decent little grab, about 1/3 cord (just the rounds, the splits to the right are from a different tree.)
Before you know it you'll be able to cut the rest of the tree down. Darn ash bore! Is that poison ivy or another type of vine?

Yeah, I'm dreading the arrival of that evil bug. Lotta White Ash here, and it'll be a shame to lose it. That tree is in an open area, and the poison ivy loves the sun. That stuff was chest-high before I stomped it down. Oh, I get poison ivy all right, but I've developed a radar for it and can avoid it for the most part, even when working where it is thick (about everywhere here.). I'll get little streaks of it on my arms from time to time (haven't even bothered to wear long sleeves this year.) I find tick, chigger and black fly bites to be much more itchy than poison ivy.
Oh, were you admiring the 'splint' I put on the rear leg years ago, when I accidentally cut through it with a Sawzall?
I'm gonna post soon about what's to the right of the rounds pictured, with some questions, but I can tell you this; It's at least 90% White Ash.
We lived in northern Indiana for a short time many moons ago. I could hardly believe all the poison ivy down there. That also is the only time I ever broke out from PI. Terrible stuff for sure. Still, only had it one time!

Yeah, the butt end of those limbs can go anywhere when the branch end hits the ground. I was hiding on the other side of the trunk from what I was cutting as best I could, coward that I am. Bad things canij happen in most aspects of this wood-heating business.
Love that Ash.Have access to more mixed Oak/Hickory that I could ever need,but really like it for burning.Same density/heat value as Red/Black Oak,a bit less than White/Bur & Hickory but dries in about half the time when green.Is (Green Ash anyway) much tougher splitting than Red thanks to the stringyness/wild grain I've noticed. Havent burned a lot of Ash yet -mainly just CL scores but unfortunately will likely see much more of it in the future thanks to the EAB.
