you are soooo lucky!! I would love to get that much here. we got half an inch last night then rain on top of it. sloppy mess. cant do anything in it. a few years ago we got 2 ft over night. it was so cool. I pray for that again every year.
I definitely would not want to be downtown. There's been an avalanche in the battery (pic from late last winter)
Those houses may be completely buried! As I recall, you said those streets are narrow and twisting. That would make rescues very hard.
Holy $&it! What do you even do with that much? I mean i don't see how plows can do anything, can't see where to go, can't push/throw snow anywhere...Do yall have monster truck snow blower/eater machines or what? What was the prediction for that storm? Were they calling for that much so people could be prepared? Well, i guess living up there, you've always got to be prepared....
I haven't heard of any severe damage, life or property. Hoping that's because there isn't any. Just finished mom's pathway. This storm beats a record from 1849? Or thereabouts. Massive beam down at the gas station across the road too...
Called for close to 3 feet. That's about what we got I guess, thing is, wind patterns mean some places get nothing cause it's all blown away, other places get 6-8 feet. Mom's pathway had 6 feet or just about, across the field is almost bare..... I didn't know what I was gonna do with it, I just started digging and figured it out as I went along. Plows are probably doing the same thing. Borrowed picture From Facebook.....plows on a 4 lane divided highway. I don't know how they can tell where the road is.....
Emergency workers(police, fire, hospital) have now been working for 36 hrs straight. Even if you could drive home(can’t, roads nowhere near being clear) not allowed due to state of emergency. Federal gov has been called ie army/reserves to help out. Long way from being over.
Wow, that is just incredible! I saw a similar storm in 1977, we got 3-4' of snow with high winds for 3 days. I remember shoveling for hours everyday just to clear doors & walkways. Roads & schools were closed for 2 weeks. Took two weeks to get our road open. Snow machines made grocery runs 6 miles each way for staples. Glad to hear no reported fatalities at least. Be safe. Everyone working together gets it done in time.
Our thoughts and prayers for all affected. Northern Ohio had a blizzard similar back in '78. I got a snowmobile the next winter... Stay safe...
I can't help but think how cool that is. Takes the mundane, day to day BS out of the world for a while. Mother natures gives you a wake up call every now & again, lets you remember what is really important and not. Hope everyone with those high efficiency, direct (sidewall) vented furnaces/boilers is paying attention that the exhaust vent isn't buried. Stay safe, keep posting those awesome pictures.
Those drifts are insane! I remember a blizzard in 2005, one of the top 3 I've been in that had massive drifting, but nothing like that! We were clearing the yard at work, and there was a freightliner tow truck parked next to the 20' tall building, completely hidden in a drift that went from the roof to the ground. I had a picture of the truck once we pulled it out with about 8' of snow on the roof. Good luck getting back to normal.
