After getting my Father moved last spring, I ended up with a few boxes of old vinyl records. Well, about 6 boxes. Over 500 records. Tonight, Val decided to put new sleeves on them and re-organize. Yeah, I am now roped in to helping... I'm wondering what the value is on some of these? Got a bunch that are smaller than a 78, and larger than a 45, not sure what size they are? Some are original "Victor" pressings, dating back to 1903-09. Old "Columbia" pressings are in there also. Anything scratched up we're chucking, but a lot of these are in surprisingly good shape. Anyone know much about older records? Thanks, JB. edit- finding some good ones- Ella in Berlin-"Mack the Knife", Sinatra stuff, Scheherazade in original "Stereophonic" 33-1/3, etc. Original jackets and sleeves, pretty cool.
What a nice inheritance. No chance of you keeping and listening to them? I will pick up old records at rummage sales. Seems they go for as low as 3/$1 on the LPs. I don't bother looking at 45's or 78's. 2nd hand shop out in Ouray Co sells them for $10 and above. The guy says he listens to every one of them!
Beetle-Kill I have a few of the old records, some even pressed on only one side, and I found a guy who could transfer them over to a CD. I still have the original records but it is now easier to play the CD than the old records.
Up until a few hours ago, I didn't have a record player. I'll have a new (inexpensive, good reviews) one here Monday. Found some Rod Stewart and AC/DC albums in the mix, Huey Lewis and Jerry Lee Lewis also ! So much good stuff, tough to describe.. and more than the 500 I initially thought.
Vinyl is making a comeback. I have boxes of them that one day I should go through and see whats there. I know that some are worth a little bit being on original labels or not too many pressed. Don't think I will ever get rid of them. I do also have my turntable back from probably the 80's that back then was a nice piece back then. Another thing for the thread that today's kids wouldn't recognize ?
I have, and some of them it makes you think. Sitting in a farm house in Nebraska, listening to these on an old Vic., talking about the war in Europe (both of them), it's just cool that these have survived that long. The newer ones are just fun to listen to on vinyl.
