What was the location of that wood??? Roadside wood in this state is not safe with me around! All kidding aside, thats a perfect roadside score in my book. Longs that you can buck to your size, not behemoths, and not all tangled up either. Looks like some premium quality stuff too!
Absolutely. My stove can’t take more than 18”, preferably 16” and not back breakers. I’ve worked in some behemoths (see earlier section of this journal post).
Second load last night before supper. Have my helper this morning. Kept saying “helping daddy, helping daddy”
Missed an easy scrounge today. Guy down the street I know from work had a free wood sign out for a bunch of oak. Almost texted him I’d take it on the way to church but didn’t have cell service. On the way back from work I saw it in a guys yard and told my wife “he already got the wood from Mikes!” Sure enough it was gone in an hour. Oh well not like I’m hurting for wood haha.
Matt’s son is going to be a killer wood hoarder one day. His hands are already gripping those rounds.
Refilled the wood rack on the deck today and split some oak I had sitting in rounds near the stacks. Also picked up a load of large oak stump uglies from the neighbor down the street with a promise there is good stuff in the backyard.
May not be pretty to look at in wood form but when in the stove they're a beautiful thing! Nice little haul!
Grateful for more oak down the street, just wish the homeowner cut them to decent lengths instead of everything between 9”-19”. Two loads, all done in an hour. Have a stash at my dads and a guy from church I need to pick up. Then I need to quit scrounging for a bit and split and stack.
Nice work Matt! Hoarding seems to be the funnest part, doesnt it? I'm in the same boat. Maybe a cord of smaller logs to buck and a few cord of rounds to split. Waiting for an extended cold spell to split.
I hear ya. Had to split some of the big rounds to pick them up. It was up hill to the truck so my normal roll them and use ramps wasn’t ideal. Isocore worked well. Anybody else feel like a mans man splitting those big oak rounds?
Haha. This forum does promote the "Git out there and git it" attitude. More nice hauls for ya, Matt. Think about this - the wood you're hauling now, that is the wood you'll be burning when your boy is in kindergarten/first grade and your second is three years old. Kind of a neat thought.
I sure do. Only way i know how to do it. I was halving then pizza slicing 36" ash rounds two Sundays ago with the isocore.
Went back to a guy from church’s house for another load. Finished cutting and will have to go back another day. Might have to bring the hydro. Love my 550xp. Cut the whole pile minus about 5-7 cuts on one tank. What’s left
Sort of - earlier in the fall when we had all that rain that soaked the ground plus wind and trees just fell over rootball and all. I had taken a load when the tree guy cut them down. Today was #2, think I can the last bit in one.
Haha about 25 minutes but I’ve got to keep my name up in the church as the wood guy. Wasn’t the first wood score, won’t be the last.
