Dead Laying Red Oak ? I know, not as good as standing. Found a downed limb that's been dead for a number of years. Ithe finally fell at the corner of my property. Cut it up and dragged it back to be processed Some if it is garbage, but most had a solid core Not a huge load, but I'll take it. It's been stacked and covered. I'll try a test piece during SS. Not planning to burn it until next year. I also might have a piece to put in the garden, with something on the cut surface. The flare is where it was attached to tree, I think.
It's so old the sap wood has fallen off, leaving only heart wood. I've found standing dead oaks like that--they burn exceptionally well.
^ Red oak. I cut and burned some like that a few years ago. Probably 30 years down, no sap wood, and it burned great.
