The utility company trimmed and cut down some trees across the road for their power lines. There is perhaps a cord of rounds sitting at the bottom of a small hill.
Problem is they bucked them 20" to 21". My stove will take 19" max. I prefer 16" to 18" length.

I figure I have a couple of options.
    1) Cut them to 16" to 18" length and split the shorts up. Throw them into a bin and burn when I am running low. Last year I finished out the season with the chunks from the bins.
2} Cut them in half and stack them with the full length splits(16"). This is what I am considering.

    What would you do?

    to 21"

I'd cut to size, and deal with the shorts separately.

Years ago I would cut them in half. Nowadays I cut them to length and save the cookie for a different pile.
Keeps the stacks from tipping over LOL

Yep, cut them to preferred length and deal with the cookies.

Would you have 85% of the wood right, with the other 15% in cute, easy to handle and store form, or 100% of it wrong? (18/21=85%, for those who enjoy the math).

It's funny, I had the same question years ago. I chose incorrectly the first time. Now I have no doubt about the better situation.

Get yourself something along these lines for the shorts...

I would cut them to your 16-18” length.

its unanimous!!! one trick I've found with 3-4 inch cookies is sometimes you can noodle them down the middle or into 3 pieces and you can still put them onto the stacks.

Could find a buddy with a bigger stove who has a load of 18” stuff and trade.

I’d opt for plan 1 and cut to length.

I've had long pieces like that before, and i just split then down to a size where i can put then at a angle into my stove. I've got a blaze king princess and you wouldn't believe how long of pieces i've put in that stove after splitting them into 1/4th's. I've done that for the fun of it, and my wife always chimes in and say's '' you'll NEVER get that big of a chunk of wood in the stove'', ha,ha,its like a dare to me, lol. You should see her face when she say's ''how'd you do that'', lol.

Cut to length and deal with the cookies. What's the diameter of the rounds? If they are larger, say 15-16", you could cut the leftover cookie in half and stack em in your regular stack.
