Burks, Disease, or Firewood Knots?

    These growths were found on a huge dead pecan log I blocked up for firewood.
    What are these growths?
    I've heard they burn crazy hot?
    Lost as a goose in high wind on this...

    some cankers are a response to a fungus or a bacteria that certain trees are susceptible to
    there appears to be several canker causes on pecans, whichever one is common in your area is likely the cause of those.

    I never thought about burning them. Give 'em a try but I'll bet they're pretty damp.

    Those are mushrooms. I wouldn't recommend burning them. Not burls or cankers.

    Hmm...hard as brick or as my Grand-pappy use to say, "harder than the times of 1929!"
    Must be fairly tasty to the critters because a gang of chipmunks are stating to reduce them in size...:rolleyes:
