Both are reputable companies, if you are wanting a commercial grade splitter, really have to split A LOT of wood to pay for itself, though. I had gotten a quote from Wolfe Ridge for the compact unut with box wedge, shade over 8K. We went with 30 ton Countyline fast cycle, 10-11 sec cycle time compared to 30 sec cycle time on our 25 ton Yard Machine splitter.

Since I would consider myself and expert on spending other ppl's money. :D I would go with the eastonmade 22-28. Eastonmade seems to me to be a better built machine. not many manufacturers show their splitters splitting gum on an 8 way wedge, or knotty beech thru a 12 way wedge. plus changing their wedges looks easy.

what kind of splitting/ burning/ selling do you plan on doing?
    (edited) for clarification

No proof, but I don't think that is where Wolfe Ridge came from. I like the Eastonmade splitters too.

the easton made splitting thru gum would be where the splitter would stall out. but it clearly didn't or the splitter going thru beech crotches. so i don't think that would be a problem. what kind of stove are you burning in?

Have you looked at SuperSplit kinetic splitters? Much quicker cycle time than even the best hydraulic and much cheaper than the options you posted.

I've never seen one with a massive wedge that those Eastonmades use though so I guess a faster cycle time might come out in the wash if you're having to handle the wood more...but worth consideration.

+1. I know several tree service companies that run similar setups. A large hydraulic to bust up big rounds into manageable pieces, and a Supersplit to knock those pieces into splits. I’m talking guys who split hundreds of cords a year. A Supersplit could be had for around $2800-$3000. Any splitter will require manual assistance. If you really want to be efficient skip another splitter and get a processor. Considering the options you posted, money doesn’t seem to be a huge concern. If it is I’d get the Supersplit, and pay a helper to run one of the splitters.

I was in your boat not that long ago yamadog.
I researched all the commercial splitter manufacturers and was sticker shocked to say the least . Started looking for used ones and although they are far and few between they are out there .

Almost pulled the trigger on a 3 year old Timberwolf T-6 with all the accessories, log lift , 4 way , and outfeed table . Price was $6000 obo and was about 75 miles away . Very nice clean splitter but it was a newer model and didn’t have the autocycle.

I decided to wait and see what else comes up . Found a Timberwolf T-5 with autocycle, hydraulic 4 way , log lift , and out feed table . It was a 8 hour drive but for $2500 it was well worth it . My though was everything is there and if it needed any work I’m still in good shape as far as cost . Changed the fluids , fresh gas and the Honda GX engine runs real smooth . Already split probably 10 full cords with it and I’m very impressed.

I’m sure any of the splitters your interested in would be very good choices . One thing to consider that I really didn’t give much though to is the outfeed table . The Timberwolf has openings where all the small stuff falls thru. The table is very heavy solid built . When I split all the small splitters are in one pile . I have since added a conveyor and I see an advantage not having all that scrap go into the barn off the conveyor . The Eastonmade looks like a piece of solid aluminum sheet. I also noticed in the videos posted in the thread how the splitter “ moves around “ when splitting big stuff . Not sure that’s an issue but my splitter doesn’t move at all . I had some huge 40” sugar maple rounds that I rolled up on the log lift and my back sure appreciated the that log lift !

I am a big fan of American CLS. I love mine an it has been headache free. Pricey but worth the investment.

If I could try any splitter I would love to give one of those Powersplit units a go. Seem to be well made and the vertical design looks very efficient as well as ergonomic. There are testimonials online of owners running a thousand cords through them a year.

Yeah definitely pricy, but some owners are claiming to have 10000 cord through them after 20 years. I guess the cheapest model without conveyor can be had for around 8 grand

Never seen the Powersplit, that's a cool splitter. But any of the ones that I really like provide sticker shock, dangit.
