The question is about drive sprockets on saws. I have a 562xp bone stock, so that means it came with a 7 pin( I believe) sprocket. More pins = more chain speed but less power or torque, correct??? I would like to get a little more chain speed without much trouble or expense. I run a 20” Sugihara 3/8 x 50 90% of the time. It’s not that I have any trouble with it, the thing cuts awesome. It’s mostly just the fact that you guys are corrupting me and I’d like it to do a little gooder. Any thoughts or ideas from some people with more experience. Is there much noticeable gain in going to an 8? Or am I thinking backwards and want a 6? What is everyone else running. Never seen any discussion about this since I joined
Have a read Sandhillbilly, maybe there’s some info to glean- 50cc CHAIN shoot out - 3 Bars, 3 Chains, 5 Sprockets, and 1 Saw.
You can very easily try an 8. Just tune your rakers accordingly (ie don't make them as low) to keep the revs up. I run an 8 on my ported 394 and my son runs one on his ported 365 special. Yes it ups the chain speed. I've not bothered trying one on the 346 and 357. They aren't high torque saws so I keep the 7 and tune the chain accordingly. I think if you are looking for that extra bit of performance, get yourself a square ground loop of chain to try. You'd be surprised at the difference if you haven't already gave one a go.
Square ground!!!! Love it, but you need to love filing to keep the passion alive. I thrive on it, trying to make it aggressive as possible.
