The state, not Asplundh took down this huge ash in front of a house right down the street from me. The guy had hired me two months ago to do some chain saw work in his woods. See my thread
    The Buck $tops Here!
Drove by Thursday and they cut it all down and was mounded by his driveway. He wants wood, has a splitter and hired me to help turn it into firewood. Mound before we started. Sunny and windy here today. Wind blew so strong the sawdust looked like snow as it blew over the driveway. IMG_1657.JPG
I basically bucked and staged the rounds for him and he split, loaded the trailer then drove to the back and stacked. Neighbor came by later and the two of them worked together while i was cutting.
    37" stump cut off. IMG_1679.JPG
They had wanted to winch and chain the trunk to move it but i said no. Just bucked it in place with the 460 wearing the 36" bar. IMG_1681.JPG IMG_1680.JPG IMG_1684.JPG IMG_1683.JPG
24" long stump cut off. Had to sledge and wedge just to move to buck. Neighbor couldnt believe i split it in just a few whacks. Had a nice big check to get me started. IMG_1682.JPG
Was there from 9-5 and worked almost non stop bucking, noodling and sectioning logs with the maul. Dont think ive ever cut this much in one day. Five tank fulls through the 261 and two through the 460. He split about a cord and a half. Probably that much left to split yet including a bunch of nuggets/cookies etc.

Yep that was a good size Ash for sure. Should make for some good firewood and a lot of it.

Good job Brad. My hats off to ya. Was a nasty windy raw day yesterday. I had planned on doing some splitting until I walked outside. Turned right around and scribbled out the day on the calendar ;)

You can't bring them all home! Money is easier to carry than wood...

Perfect firewood making conditions IMO. Keep moving and stay warm. 20* with that much wind maybe not. I was bucking the huge trunk and the wind was blowing sawdust so bad i actually grabbed safety goggles out of the truck and used them. They were never used. You outside today jo191145 ?

I was watching the guy use the splitter and chuckled as too how long it takes and this was ash! He kept saying this is the way to go and you know how anti hydro i am. In his defense he was retirement age and had hip issues. Still seemed like a lot of work bending and i still had to section bigger rounds for him.
