Temps hovering the freezing mark, house plenty warm from this morning's fire. Snowing quite heavily, temps dropping quite a bit tonight into tomorrow.
Been hanging around 40 today, just loaded some ash and oak. Heading out shortly to have a late Christmas get together with friends. Down to 22 and gusty winds tonight with snow showers.
Burning silver maple, ash, and box elder. 29° outside, 69° inside. I need to keep hoarding the SS wood like basswood, pine, and box elder. I keep using more of this type of wood with winters not being so bitter as of the last few years. Yes, there have been stretches of very cold weather, but a lot of the winter has been pretty tame aside from those spells.
None of the white stuff here though. It did flurry just enough to say it was flurrying, but it had absolutely no accumulation, not even in the cracks in the driveway.
We hit 30f here today. Its been warm. I hadn't been spearing in 10 days and there was only 2" of new ice in my hole this morning. Typically there would have been at least 10" of new ice this time of year. I don't seen any below average temps over the next 10 days. We might hit zero Wednesday morning, then it moderates quickly.
We have a very thin layer of ice on the small lakes. Big lakes are wide open. Lots of unhappy fisherman. I got 1 of those Eskimo tent style shantys I think will be good for my daughters and I. Hoping we'll get to use it this year.
Hey Ray Charles can see that there is something unusual with this winter warmth.Back in the day we'd have so much snow this time of year that the snow mounds would be as high as the street signs. At this rate of mildness I wonder will I be able to burn up my wood before it rots.
I am very glad for the mild temps and little snow. I had to take my less than 2 year old Ariens snow blower in to the shop to get it fixed. They have to order parts and hope to have it back to me within the upcoming week. Hope it doesn't snow much.
flames pouring off some pine at the moment wind recorded roaring gusts at 25 mph but sure sounds like more than that
Same, I've got plenty of oak and locust in reserve, but other than a week's worth total of real cold, I haven't had to use it. But, I've burned at least a cord of poplar, red maple, and miscellaneous shoulder season wood so far. 34° here this morning, burning more mixed maple.
32, we got a couple inches of slush. Headed for the teens tonight. Still 78 inside, plenty of time to burn the coals down some. Wish I had some pine for this warm weather. The heat pump upstairs has only been on for a few hours at most so far this winter. It’s not needed until we get down into the single numbers.
27 Burning up some shorts/uglies and shoveling chips bark and crap into the beast. Almost out of softwood in the immediate piles in front of boiler. Into hardwood for the dead of winter.
39f here, clear and sunny. 41f for a high. Winds are already whipping with gusts this afternoon forecast in the mid 40's mph. The wife and I just hauled in 1/3 of a cord of Elm while its warm. Good to go for quite some time. Stove is idling along nicely from last nights load. 70F inside.
