Hey guys... Old buddies, ol' pals. Looking for a little favor here... I want to make some authentic Sassafras rootbeer for the kids but, well, sassafras doesn't grow around here. I know I've heard from some of the members here that sassafras saplings grow like weeds in there area. What I was hoping is that a kind member would harvest the roots of some of these saplings and then send them on over to Ol' Grizz for our summer project
Being its used to make MDMA check into it before shipping. Only reason I know this is they had a show on Nat Geo about Sassafras/safrole and the black market of it. Also the show said it causes cancer.
I think the cancer thing has been disproven, turned out that like saccharin it causes cancer in test rats but not in humans, and the doses used would result in drinking 40 gallons of rootbeer a day for an extended period of time. I don't know what MDMA is but I will look into it quick.
Ok, just looked into it. Apparently MDMA is a drug similar to meth and can be made with the essential oils of the sassafras plant-- which would take an insanely large amount of sassafras. Rootbeer, on the other hand would take much less and it doesn't look like any usable drug dose could be made from the amount of sassafras used for root beer-- 4 ounces of dried roots make five gallons of rootbeer. It is not a controlled substance in any way and the powder of the leaves is sold as file, an essential ingredient in gumbo.
MDMA is ecstasy. Safrole which is sassafras oil I think? I just know they took sassafras roots, cooked them up and that was what then used for MDMA. I'm not sure if its controlled or not. I'd imagine its "watched". Was just something I thought of, figured best to pass it on.
Thanks Nate, sounds like large amounts can draw attention. I would think large amounts would be significantly more than what one could fit in a fixed rate envelope.
You know, it's amazing how people find ways to make drugs out of almost anything and then next thing you know the supplies are monitored or outright banned for to the rest of us. I mean, I've been carded when buy spray paint and air fresheners.
!! I did not know this. Just watched a documentary on MDMA, as its creator passed within the last week.
I wish I remembered the name if the show. I guess Sassafras poaching is a big thing in the jungle. Brazil I believe. They go out, cut down the big tree and pull out the roots. Cook it up in some caldron deal. They showed a few dumptrucks that had false floors to transport the oil without being caught.
