I got a call from the historical society. They bought a property and are cleaning it up and wanted to know if I wanted any trees they were taking down. It’s nice and close so of course I was in. They were all dead and already on the ground. I needed to cut and stack brush. I got 3 loads out with the dump truck, around 4.5 cords worth today and I think it’s ash. I don’t really have much or any interest in what’s left- 4’ diameter and knotty trunk with multiple spots with metal in it. They have members with equipment to deal with that so it’s not like I’m sticking it to them. They are just happy I did what I did.
Yep ash. I'd try and keep it off the ground if you not selling it till next year since it's dead. Could be almost ready to burn now.
Spot on. Nice load, will be a nice mix in for some of your customers- some may start asking for more once they realize how nice it is in the stove- just ask Backwoods Savage
Indeed! But sadly we are about to the end of ours. Still have lots in the stacks and just a few more to come down, but not many, if I can get them down. It's getting tougher all the time when the body acts up.
It will do best if you can put it on top of some other wood in your windrow. Dead ash is like a sponge if left in contact with the ground.
Yes thats ash. Great score sir! Do you ever scrounge small amounts of wood or is it not worth the effort jrider ? Seems like its multiple cords when you do, which is great as you have the capacity to do that. Dont blame you on the behemoth trunk. Not worth the effort or hitting metal.
Unless it’s super easy I generally don’t bother with small scores but if I do get them, I don’t post...save the big scores for that!
Bark looks like the White Ash I see here but I've never seen Green that I know of, and Black Ash range looks to be north of me. I hope it's White because BTU doesn't look too good on the other two.. about like soft Maple or American Elm.
