Ya I put some two year old dry Elm in the stove Last night. That stuff burned so hot I thought my stove would melt.
It didn't huh !Fill up your stove with some really dried Elm and get back to me with the results. You won't be laughing !You'll be saying "Oh Sugarty".
Dry elm sure burns nicely. I find it funny how the old wives/ farmer's takes paint the picture that you'll freeze to death of you try to heat your house with elm. Lol
You might have, I see dead elms sticking up barkless, in the woods along the highway and such. Of course even between my town and yours there are differences in what trees are prevalent.
Standing dead elm is my main firewood. Dead & dry it’s not even that bad to split. Still woodn’t want to do it by hand though
Ideally three years, but after two years, half a bigger split and check the moisture content. If below 20% its okay. Has Stoveaclaus checked out the Firewood BTU & Drying Chart in the reference section here. buZZsaw has learned a lot from it.
Happy holidays my long island brother, 1 year it will be good, 2 years it will be gold. However you will find piles of dust in the stack from a bug that i dont know the name of. Hickory rots real fast when left in rounds uncovered. I have indoor bbq wood thats going on 3 years and its beautiful. Fill your stove with hickory and your house will feel like the Bahamas.
Elm has always been one of the go to firewood for me because so much is standing dead from DED. It burns hot but doesnt last as long as other woods. It makes a lot of coals in my experience as well. Then there's the splitting part...
Here's one... I've seen another though, saying you'll freeze to death if you try to burn elm. The Firewood Poem by Lady Celia Congreve
