I left my non oak score this afternoon and was en route to my friends to split the rest of the poplar. I decided to take a ride and "scout" for wood. Asplundh stuff is nearing the end around here it seems.
Happened to drive by this. And i thought i had a hoarding problem. Guys whole side yard full of log loads. From the looks of it all tree service drop offs. I guess my yard would look like this if id let it!

Wish it was. If the yard looked like that Ms. buZZsaw and the landlord would crucify me! Wouldnt have to leave the house for a long time though! There is no wood in my yard other than a small amount by the deck/firepit. The other stuff is just into the woods by the shed. Most is down in the landlords woods...my main PA. The rest is at my friends ten minutes from me!

How about this guy? He’s about half mile down the road from me. Gets loads dropped off weekly from tree crews. Not sure how he scored that deal. Cuts and splits all day, every day. Last I heard he sells a cord of unseasoned, delivered, for $150. The summertime he’s got a massive pile of splits. This time of year he can’t keep up it appears. Hope people aren’t burning unseasoned wood right away though.

Didn’t want to be a creeper so took a couple quick pics. Sorry they’re a little blurry. I know... stupid to have the phone out when driving. It’s a slow back road if that helps. Didn’t get the bulk of his pile in the second picture.

Nice when you have room and time. If i had a lot of room, id consider doing it that way. Easier than scrounging.
If you call tree services and inquire you can get on a drop list. I did call one earlier this year after talking to the crew cutting down the street from me.
My bet is folks dont season his $150 green cord enough. Dime a dozen sellers like him. The last two people ive sold half cords to complained about the prior wood they bought didnt burn. I try to educate them the best i can.

Hmm. I wonder how much wood I could cut and split in a year if I did it all day, every day with minimal equipment? I would rather produce less firewood, season it, and sell for more money than sell everything at $150.

I just can’t believe how much he sells this time of year. People must be desperate.

I might try and get on a drop list. Would feel so lucky to get a truck load dropped off.

People dont know good dry wood until they burn it. Its more than likely still green. If you do inquire about a drop off be sure to be specific about what you want. They will bring junky wood.

I looked out my kitchen window one day and there was someone setting up a camera on a tripod in my front yard garden. I was going to ignore it but then went out to see what he was taking a picture of. Sure enough the sun was on the tomatoes 'just right' , the colors were popping contrast like crazy and he had caught it out of the corner of his eye driving by. Pic was on his studio website the next day.
So I guess if you're not stopping to smell the roses you're stopping to take that shot.

I get about one free day every two months so I usually go like hell and my body pays for it the day 3 or 4 days.
