Just about three years ago, I bought the last load of logs from my wood guy, which contained several beech logs.

I just refilled my deck rack with it.

First impressions - the thin bark comes right off.

The weight of it feels heavier than a similar piece of red oak, also 3yrs seasoned.

I just tossed a split on to a good hot bed of coals. Looks like it's burning.

Rack is topped off. That one round will go in later this afternoon, when I know I can keep an eye on it...just cuz

Indeed, beech is great but sometimes difficult to find.

Love beech and we have quite a bit fortunately. It’s at least half of what I have for this season and more like 75% after that which is about what the standing hardwood mix is close by.

Beech is the most common species on our farm.

Seems like when I find any beech it’s all hollow out on the inside . I did buck up a blow down few years back , hollow of course .
I kept waiting to see some sort of critter come crawling out one end . Lol

I have several young Beech trees in my yard, and it is a major component of the woods out back. Very common.

I like it. Burns nice. Long coals. Wish there was more in my stacks and more trees around.

Grab some if you ever have the chance.

We see that a lot also. The ice storm of 1998 broke that top of many beech trees around here and they never recovered. Hollow heart, pock marked bark, and full of ants usually.

Beech is a great firewood of choice. Cuts easily, seasons much faster than oak, very easy to split and it throws off quite a bit of BTU's. Sometimes, even more than red oak!

Have you ever cut or burned any? How plentiful is it down there? Seems to grow in groves around here for the most part.
    You will love it IMO!

Not knowingly. Maybe when I was young and dad burned as we cut just about. There is some here and there. Does a blow down rot fast? My cousin has a huge one that blew down a couple years ago.

Just as a side note about beech . The saying goes , “ sugar maple doesn’t like its feet wet “.
Same goes for beech , you find beech there’s a good chance sugar maples are close by .

And Red Maple likes to go swimming, cause it grows in or near water.

Yes it does rot fast, unfortunately. The ones around here have a fungus affecting them. Kills part of the tree and storms break them off. PITA to get out of my woods so i dont take them. 25% punk too.
