Making ice? I'm surprised there is any water left up there now; all ice! Enjoy it Tom.

Hey, isn't this also the shortest day of the year? How long might the sun shine on you today?

The calendar says this is the first day of winter. The forecast looks like the first day of spring. I wonder how long this will last? Also wonder what the price will be? No doubt we'll be paying for this down the line.

I was thinking along the same lines....hoping it wasn't the spring thaw come early. You know, those few days of warmer milder temps after a few months of not warmer milder temps?

That's one of the worst things about spring. It warms up and feels so great. Two days later it gets barely below freezing and you are shivering.

We still have some open water, and need the cold like this to make it safe. My last trip out after caribou I broke through 2 lakes and the river twice. DED34C72-C56A-455F-BB89-D59C46FC85FC.png 9476CE4D-5DC6-4A8B-8284-93704D8DA94C.png

You know it, sounds like a 22 short. Steel beams on the canopy covering work vehicles will pop hard enough to shake the building.

23* here and slowly dropping. Red Maple is on the menu tonight. The stove is knee deep in coals.

+24F now, and up to 40 tomorrow. A rare December thaw in northern MN. A little trouble lighting tonight’s fire with a “reverse flow” going on. A little smoke in the basement during startup isn’t a big deal. We pretended we were camping.

A few red oak splits, a few poplars, and a few big Norway pine hunks for good measure.

We were very warm today. I'm burning some ugly ends and pieces of cottonwood and pine right now. It's still warm out but a little weather forecasted for the next couple days.

32 here this morning, no reload as it supposed to hit 50. Looks like a one fire a day week. No snow here for Santa's sleigh, course I have been rather naughty this year.

35* out 66* inside. Had some heavy whining yesterday about being to hot in the house. I let the stove go cold. We too are looking at almost 50* today. No talk of snow at all on the local news.
