AM ? We did one trip to Target mid=afternoon a week or two ago and got a majority of it done. 20% coupons, 25% coupons, $10 off $50. Girl did pretty good bundling things in groups for the coupon categories. I did online Target too. A little bit of Amazon. On the fence dropping Prime and doing Netflix instead. I can walk to Target and sometimes do.
My family and I don't exchange gifts. We're all adults and can buy stuff ourselves if we want it. I have a closet full of crap people have given me over the years that I have no use for.
I make a lot of our Christmas presents so I get started in January. If we come across something that we think a family member might need or use, we will buy it ahead of time and stash it. I am famous within the family though for giving gifts that just need something to finish it off so I have to have it back and finish it. One year a sweater was missing a sleeve, our SIL got 1 1/2 socks and campinspecter's shirt last Christmas need a cuff, buttons and buttonholes to finish his new shirt. So far, this year, I think I am going to get everything finished on time. Great joke on me one year when our daughter gifted me with a beautiful cross-stitched tree skirt you made that still need the binding finished. With the binding she included in the present, I ended up finishing it for her.
That's funny Woodwidow . Wife made a valiant effort to finish another throw/blanket for our oldest Gdaughter, but said she'll just give it to her on her birthday next year. I think that's in Sept. She generally has waaay too many irons in the fire at the same time. Can't remember how many skeins of yarn she's gone through. Let's just say it was a lot. Merry Christmas to you and Allan.
It's very odd here this year. One side of the family asked to not exchange gifts except children last year. 2 other relatives have passed on. Down to 1.5 people, 1, 1, and my core family, and the two singles are prepaid Visa cards. Sad and weird.
After years of beating ourselves up for gift shopping and buying, we (family) all decided to finally stop buying for each other. It sounds kind of "scroogie" but has worked out well for quite a number of years now. What we do In place of exchanging is to play what we call the "dice game". Everyone buys a number of smaller useful desirable items, wrap them and bring them to the gathering/meal. With us all sitting around a table, we'll place some of those gifts in the center and then usually two sets of dice (because of the number of people) are used. When you roll a 7 or 11, you choose a gift and this goes on until all the gifts on the table are gone. Unwrap the gifts and everyone finds out what they have......for the moment. Then the game starts. Setting a timer-usually the buzzer on the oven- we start rolling the dice to get a 7 or 11 once more. When you roll either number, you can pick out any other gift that you want. This goes on until the buzzer sounds and then everyone is set with keeping the gifts in their pile at that time. Timer is usually set for around 15-20 minutes. The gifts range in value from low to probably no higher than $20-$25 at best. Lots of snacks, home made preserves, hats gloves socks smaller tools knives movies gadgets decorations useful and gag gifts...you get the idea. Due to the quantity of gifts brought, there are usually a couple dozen gifts per game session and usually a minimum of 3 sessions. After 99 played this game with my family, she introduced it to her family and it was a huge success and looked forward to every season!
this year we gave all the grand kids money.because we dont know what to get them and nor do there mums and dads.at one time the presents took up half the living room.
