My new personal best. I had an out of town meeting. Built fire before bed Monday night, specifically built it for coal longevity. Approximately 46 hours and some ash sifting later:

I will to an extent but I ain’t got all day lol usually if there’s enough coals I throw a load on top an open the air (ash door). If there’s just one or two I stick a thin piece of fatwood on some kindling if it don’t light I bust out the torch I keep by the stove.

Usually one match a year unless we get a really warm week. The stove usually will hold coals that I can re-light from for 24 hours or so.

My leaf blower always seems to find that one coal that starts the fire back up. Whooooooooood!

It's rare that I have to relight my outdoor wood boiler. Usually there's a few buried coals, some birch bark and the blower fan get it all going again.

If we let the stove go cold with no embers left, I'll be the first to admit that I like using Super Cedars. About 1/3 of one will start things just fine using small splits. No paper or knidling needed. They run a pretty good sale with free shipping every now and then. Sure, they cost more than matches, but we like the convenience, only use when needed and like to give them to friends as gifts.

If there is even a hint of a coal left buried in the ashes, a few sticks of shredded fatwood kindling and the fire is off and running again. We must all have the "One match, Many fires" gene! My understanding is that this gene is also linked to high intelligence, classic good looks and plenty of bedroom action! Except in a case like mine where the gene is recessive! True Story

In my younger days I thought of myself as Superman, Mario Andretti, and Casanova all rolled into one... As I age, I'm turning into Rip Van Winkle, Mr. Magoo, and Mr. Limpit. But I still only use one match a year, LOL...

Ya have to have something to hold onto...
