Plus after you're done with the CSS, then you can great your house after a year or so. Way better than workouts you have to pay the gym for, and you get nothing it out of it except the workout. With CSS wood workouts, the equipment costs$, but the workout and the future BTUs are free.

Spirit of Two Socks I absolutely agree with you but to be honest as I‘ve aged I have relied more on equipment. My workout has changed over time. I started at 21 and am now 69.

Log splitter was added first what a godsend. I could split at my own rate. When I rented one I killed myself to get the most done to get my money’s worth. I still have my splitting mauls and wedges but only use them to half or quarter huge rounds.

Tractor was a huge game changer, along with using pallets. I can easily move wood around 1/3 of a cord at a time. Moving 5 cords around is 15 pallets and half hours work.

My pallet racking sheds with metal roofs allow me to keep 3 years worth of wood under cover always.

There is still there is plenty of physical work involved for me and honestly it does feel rewarding working and managing the firewood. I give my neighbor all the wood he needs and also supply my daughter with her wood and am happy to do it for both

    Well said and often overlooked!
I think most everyone on this site would agree with this. I read new posts every morning with a couple a cups of coffee. Everyone posting and responding seems to find the activities with their wood prep and burning very rewarding. We all get something beside sweat and home heating out of our efforts

Its the sense of accomplishment that gets me. Thinking back on all the fun I had while its making me warm when the temps are in the 20’s. A dream of Stoveaclaus.

Midwinter thought of you when I saw this on marketplace.
There are several guys who have ads like this. The name painted on boom is Prentice.
I called once and the guy I called wanted some cash for fuel. Don’t remember how much.
Might even be the same guy in different areas and he is on Craigs list as well

Getting the tree guy as a friend is amazing right? I hook them up with a case of beer, but last night I threw him $120 as a decent Christmas thank you. I am literally a parasite on these jobs, but it saves them a hassle and expense and I love the wood. Good luck and keep this guy happy!!!!

Some times "free delivery" means just that, he charges for the logs but no delivery charges. If the wood was free, I'd be running down the road after him waving a $50 bill.

Now that you said that, the wording is different than it used to be. It was free firewood and a small fuel charge a few years ago when I called. Pretty slick what rearranging a few words would do.
Sorry I didn’t notice before posting.
I’ll stick with what I’ve got.

I can relate mikeward . I used to rent a splitter too. I enjoy splitting by hand, but time is not on my side for that right now. About a year and a half ago I bought a splitter and now I split when I want and how much I want.

Both tree guys showed up today at almost the same time with wood chips.
Good stuff. Big truck to the right smaller to the left.
Spread it all out. Both guys said wood is next is oak OK?
Told them it’s fine but cherry and locust are fine too.
One is bringing oak tomorrow the other on Saturday.
    We will see...

Oh if you look at these pics of the chips. There’s 8 to 10 ft of fill under them a whole layer of oak stumps topped with dirt and chips.
We’ve been filling back here for 20 years. Four years ago one tree guy (no longer dumping here) dumped one load- same spot in pics and asked if he could bring 6 more loads of chips from his yard. No problem, I just spread them out.

Buying a splitter is the second best investment I’ve made. The best is the tractor.
I split and load right onto a skid. When it’s filled break time. Get tractor put it away. Repeat. I usually try to split 3 skids and then cleanup area of bark and small stuff. NO STACKING it’s already on pallets and put away.

I wouldn’t be on a 5 year plan if it wasn’t for tree guys. I use wood chips as a hook to get them here with wood. I think the pay around $30.00 a load to town dump to get rid of it. Same with wood. I take way more trucks of chips than wood. I tell them I only want the nice stuff any diameter but oak, locust, cherry and maple if I must. I split and give all the maple away to neighbors and my daughter. She gets oak too.
Some times I get a funny feeling with the crew that’s dumping. Looking around too much, shopping with their eyes, looking over my sheds and stuff as they drive thru or they bring crummy wood and chips with all junk thrown in with it. They don’t get to come back.
It works great for both of us. Every load placed here is money in tree guys pocket . Along with time saved driving to town dump and their tipping fees. I think some of the workers still get money from the boss for dumping fees like they went to dump.

That sounds like the real deal! You could go into the firewood business, except that everyone gives it away for free.

True lots given away here. The trick is getting it cut up and delivered.

Everyone on this site is in the firewood business. I don't sell any but do give some away:thumbs:

In your case, what you are giving away is your labor, made tangible.
