Its hard to say no isnt it?! Nice stuff! As long as it was easy splitting. Is it easier for you to make the finish sized splits on site or bring rounds/quarters home?
Tulip is super easy splitting. It depends on the score.. generally easier to split on site, but if it is a really big score, or a chance I’ll miss out, bigger chunks are quicker and I can stage by hand up that little hill in my front yard. The hill can be a pain if I overload the wheelbarrow. I almost never do full rounds unless they are small. I don’t want to stress the back any more than I have to.

Stoveshamster Probably somewhere near Smithtown I suppose. I always see ads on CL for free wood in that area. North shore seems rich in Oak, ash, and maples, South shore is an entirely different story with slim pickins. Nice score of beautiful Red Oak? I'll even go as far as saying mouthwatering

A reverse hoard. A coworker mentioned that he needed to stop by on the way home from work to pick up a few bundles before Christmas so I brought this in for him.
Nice haul Molly! At first glance I thought it was red elm, especially the vertical crotch piece has anatomy similar to elm. Gourley Good on you for being a friend and offering up some primo hoard wood. If he was referring to stopping at the supermarket for their bundles, you just saved him over $20! Kindling not included haha
There was a car involved in this score, so I'm putting it here to keep this this thread alive! I met Mwalsh9152 back at the house I got the black birch at, in November. The homeowners still had quite a bit of ash, oak, and some black birch that hadn't been taken. Between Mwalsh9152, the homeowner, and myself, we got the big ash rounds cut, split, loaded into the Bronco and my RAV4, and back to Mwalsh9152's house. I came home with another load of black birch, and promised to go back next week for more. Very nice people, thrilled to have us come and take their wood!
We would have never got the wood split without Molly and her bucket o wedges! Mine were just bouncing out and wouldn't sink in. Her monster wedge was the trick! Thanks again for your help Molly! Now I just need to figure out how I'm getting that heavy stuff out with the tailgate stuck.
I can get them out, just push them out to land on the ground behind it. It's just lifting and turning in that cramped area.
I find a good wedge needs two things..a nice gradual tapered blade (which many are sold way too blunt and need grinding) and a wider butt than the maul head. this is so you can continue to pound the wedge after its fully sunk for stubborn logs. Most mauls are only able to be pounded flush to the log cause the maul got buried, but no split. I only have one wedge that can perform the job of making it all the way through and thank goodness I have it or I'd often be stuck. It's the round grenade type wedge and so I use that to finish the job after the flat wedges cant go further. Molly has everything needed to hand split logs and is why she is a legend Remember that 70s rock group Molly Hatchet? Well who do you think was the inspiration and pictured here under the armor???
