How many full cords do you burn a year?
3-4 (2-3 of that is for my mom's house)

Do you harvest your own wood, buy logs, or pre split wood?
Harvest from own property, although I've culled some oak from elsewhere in the past.

    Are you working or retired?
    Retired

Do you have help with wood chores, or do them yourself?
    Just me.

We have heated all the cold months with wood for 40 years. We burn 3-3.5 cords a season usually Doug Fir, Madrone, Cherry, Locust and Maple in roughly that order. We are both retired and I scrounge wood locally and have a tree service connection. I do all the bucking, loading, bringing it home and splitting myself. I have a hydraulic splitter. The Wiff helps stack and does all the cleanup. She will start and tend a fire herself at the drop of a hat. I currently have 6 cords stacked in the shed and 6 cords CSS and top covered on the parking pad. More than just the house heating, I love all things about finding and gathering firewood. I just need more room to store and season the stuff. When I store to capacity (12 cords) and have to stop CSS, I have withdrawal symptoms!

around 3-4 depending on weather supplement with nat gas when it's above 32 outside
I scrounge and have an excavator who drops logs off when he gets them.
I work 2 jobs.. and I do all the css by myself.

Second year with woodstove but 1st full year of burning. Had install issue last year and was shut down for month Trying to keep a 1900 sq. 1840 stone farmhouse warm and not turn on oil furnace. (Knock on wood, only turned it on to test this year)

Im thinking 3.5-4.5 cords. Did little over a cord from 10/1-12/1. Of course depends on temps.

I scrounge and I did buy 2 seasoned cords split this year. I have access to down trees at my sister's. I have my own 5 acres that I'm taking the down and standing dead from. (Lots of locust and cherry). Don't want to cut any live trees, trying to save woods from the stinking vines that is choking it.

2 sons help. Trying NOT to make it seem like a chore to them. I ask if they want to help and if they say no, its ok. They load trailer with rounds/ splits, drive quad, stack and suggest what I should do.
Wife will tend fire and bring wood in from patio.

85% of time its just me. Which I really dont mind and don't feel like it's a chore.
    Right now anyway. Lol:D

I buy an 8 cord of tree length truck load in the spring. I cut and split and stack it all under cover. By mid sept it's dry enough to get it in my basement. I can usually get 6 cords in my basement. I have two ducts that keep the basement warm. So if any of it still needs drying the heat from the basement helps alot.

I burn about 4 cords per year.
All wood is harvested off my own property.
    I am retired.
95%+ of the work is done alone. One son may come give me help for one day per year.

We burn from 2.5 cord up to maybe 3.5 depending upon the winter.

    Tired and retired.

For many, many moons we've harvested our own wood. It used to be a family affair but then our sons grew up (youngest one turns 55 in 3 days) so then was wife and I. Then it turned into just me.

My wife still takes care of the ashes and cleaning of the chimney (although there is practically nothing to clean out of the chimney). She also cleans up behind me as I tend to make a mess bringing in wood. She also does my laundry and fixes my meals. I would not trade her for anything.

I worked alone for many years but for the last 4 years we've had a group of wonderful people come to our place in the spring. We party, eat, drink and cut firewood. We also split firewood but most of the stacking is left for me to handle. That is called a FHC get-together and we have a great time.

This also allows me to continue with the wood burning in good shape. We have a good supply of firewood and don't have to worry about next year or the year after that. Most folks that come simply say that we'll never run out of wood when they see what we have on hand. I like that.

Words can never convey what I feel when our friends come here and both work and have a good time. We are truly blessed. Thank you Firewood Hoarders!

Harvest a little on my own land, mostly scrounge on highway & powerline right-of-way after maintenance crews.
Retired or unemployed (it's still not clear)
All me, all the time. A firewood hoarder never rests.

2 cords a year. One at home in the fireplace, and one at our cabin which is our only heat source. We are up there a lot year round and we are 15 miles from the MN/Ontario border so it is plenty cold.

I harvest poplar, black ash and white birch off our land, about a cord a year, and I buy 1.5 to 3 cords of split sugar maple and birch from our neighbor now and again, depending on open spaces designated for my 3 -4 year plan.

    Work full-time, and then some.

Our adult sons, ages 22 and 25 are css machines. It gives me great pleasure to see them in action using the skills I taught them. I am thankful for that because like many here, I am particular about the css activities on my property.

Our daughter is 27, a mother to our grand daughter, gets involved as well. Our son-in-law has shown some promise, and seems to enjoy wood work.

My wife's only job is telling me when, and how much wood to add to the stove. When I am out ice fishing or hunting, she enjoys doing that herself.

Probably burn 2-3 cords per year but also have a woodmill that i feed. All the wood comes from blowdowns or dead trees on my property. I work full time. My dad helps me most of the time as he is the one who gave me the firewood addiction. I also have a golden retriever help out too. Wife helps with the stacking sometimes and feeds the fire while i am away at work. My 5 yr old daughter helps sometimes too.

I burn 3.5 to 4.5 cords a year (depending on winter) in my 2100 sq ft. late 1800s drafty home.
All wood scrounged local and free, often times dirty or punky city limits wood or construction scraps. (That said I have a great variety of hardwoods to play with in this zone).
My stove burns round the clock and never stops once I start it up mid fall till I ween it off ending about mid spring.
My gas furnace kicks in for about 25 percent of the energy since the house is not really insulated and I only have one overworked fireplace insert
All firewood processing and collecting is done by myself using a variety mauls for hand splitting.
There's always a pile of newly collected logs waiting on my property in case any company should feel inspired to connect with nature and take a few whacks

    I burn about 3 to 3 1\2 cord a year.
I go up to the mountains every year to cut wood in national forest. About 100 miles each way.
The rest of my wood I get from ranchers and sometimes in town.
I do all the cutting processing and stacking myself. I like it.
I also do all the stove chores myself. I like that too.
The wife enjoys the heat and I am glad she does.
    I forgot to mention. Retired.

I burn about 5 cords/year in an outdoor gassification wood boiler and get the wood from my property. I'm medically retired from the USMC at 35 yrs. Old. My son whose 11 helps quite a bit but I won't let him run the saw...yet .

    I burn 5 to 6 cords a year
    I work full time
Scrounge most of my work but have a couple landscapers and tree service friends, I have a town connection who lets me know where there cutting too
I do 90 % myself but my wife and kids help when they can, I truly love doing firewood and when my family joins me in the process I love it even more, doing firewood is my downtime, it’s very much like therapy

    3.5-4 cords a year
Most of it is wood I cut on public land with a permit, but some has been from trees on my property or family/friend's property. This year is an exception because I'm burning very little public land wood. I had 2 maples cut down January 2018 that yielded 10 cords and got split up between me, my parents, and a neighbor. I also picked up over a cord of alder a year ago that the county cut and bucked along a road.
I'm single and work 40-48 hours a week.

4 to 6 cord a year in a Fisher Insert, 1600 sqft house, 1 floor with a partial basement 3 bedrooms, kitchen and living room have an open floor plan with the bedrooms down an open hallway, kitchen and living room are usually around 72 to 74 degrees with the bedrooms in the 60s, burn mostly oak and hickory with some locust, wood comes from my property and the hunting and fishing clubs I belong to, I do the felling, CSS, clean up, majority of bringing the wood in, the wife tends the fire while I am at work (it is greatly appreciated and helps minimize the amount of wood used plus she can keep the house from getting overly hot by tending a smaller fire), the boys (ages 7 and 6) help where they are able, I work a full 40 hours a week now (I was working 60+ hours a week in construction/excavation for 18 years after serving 4 years in the Coast Guard)

10-12 cord per year heating shop & home.
10-12 yrs till retirement I think. The plan is to make firewood sales my retirement exercise.
Cut with several different people. We make 40-60 cord per year. They burn & sell some as well.
I tend the boiler & stack my own wood. We cut & split as a group usually.
Cutting fence rows, blow downs & cull trees on numerous properties. I've got about 1200 acres to work on all within a few miles of home.
I have a great time at Backwoods Savage 's GTG every spring!

6-8 cords estimated, never really measured, but it’s a lot. Heat 3800 finished sqft well insulated house.

Harvest wood from in-laws farm, but it’s a 1 1/2 hour drive. Also took a CL firewood wanted add that worked good this fall, and random other scrounges.

Working, not close enough to retire

I cut and hand split 100% by myself. Can “highly encourage” my kids son 14 and daughter 12 to help load trailer and stack occasional, but not enough. Wife will start fire and reload but that’s it.
