Back in October I put up a post about an ash score at a friends house nearby. Haven’t had much time to work on that wood lately. Until this morning after plowing out. Went over for an hour and a half and got the big sections bucked up with my 20” 391. There just something so peaceful about cutting up some fresh wood in the snow.
Nice cutting job .I have to ask if you notice a lot of ash from your Ash firewood?I ask as I bought slab wood and a few bundles were Ash it burns great plenty heat but wow a bucket of ash per day. When I burn maple or spruce, poplar I go 4-5 days and have less than 1 day with the Ash.
Nice pictures, nice wood. I found myself cutting in the snow a couple of times early in my woodcutting career. It was for a friend who could never seem to get his wood in when the weather was nice. He's coming over right now for some help repairing his splitter (I won't loan him mine anymore) so he can finish splitting his wood for this winter. He's currently burning green oak he cut in September. I've found smarter friends to cut with.
It leave a big ash pile in the stove for us. More noticeable than other hardwoods for sure. But we generally are burning a mix of hardwood so it all just gets mixed in an shoveled out when needed. About every four days I’d say.
Yep! Plan to trailer over my splitter for the bigger rounds and quarter them before tossing into the truck. Most of the small stuff I’ve already brought back.
We have a friend like this. October hits and that’s when the thought of firewood comes into his head... He’s always scrambling and I can’t recall a year that he’s burned anything other than ash.
Nice looking rounds and very scenic with the snow for sure. Did a little splitting late this afternoon myself and stopped to admire the snow. Took a pic and texted it to the GF. How much did you folks get up there Woodsman ? We got about 3" in North haven.
We got 4ish inches overnight. After the warm temps and rain on Monday and Tuesday we still had a couple inches left on the ground from the storm last week but it was sloppy. Was so bummed about the warm weather so it was nice to wake up to a little snow and cold this morning. Need more snow though! Here’s a pic of the wood shed from this morning after I got done plowing and cleaning up.
That is some beautiful firewood Woodsman, even though you have to contend with a little more ash. Pun intended.
It will definitely always be more ash when burning slabwood and yes, a bit more burning ash slabwood.
