Every time I load wood into my indoor storage, I load in 3 totes of little chunkies( short cut-offs). They burn just as good as regular splits. I let nothing go to waste on my property. Here is a pic of a fire built yesterday morning with the chunkies. 20191210_074122.jpg 20191210_074308.jpg 20191210_074814.jpg

I'll work them in, as well. They burn just like full length splits.

Same boat here. Nothing wrong with uglies and chunks.

Haven’t quite reached the stage of fully making those but I still use pallet blocks like that size. Burn great!

Always keep a pile of shorts & uglies around. Most of it gets burned first in Fall & remainder early Spring but have some handy for mild days in winter (ha!) where just needing a quick fire for a few hours to remove the chill.

I love the chunks and wedge slices, they come in handy when packing the stove/playing tetris for a good overnight burn.

I have a bunch of shorts, uglies, cookies, twisties, etc.

I am going to build a pallet bin with a roof to put them in for future years. It may become my shoulder seasons wood. I'd guess with every cord I process, I get at least a couple wheelbarrows of them.

Burn them too. Got too many of the darn things though. The dilemma of a scrounger. Been leaving them roadside lately.

My wife loves having short pieces and uglies to put in the stove while I'm away during the day. The big chunkies I'll burn when I get home. When you score roadside scrounges you get a lot of these shorts and uglies. Even when I can process my own trees, there's uglies and stuff that breaks off when being split.

I find that short pieces and uglies burn better and longer, probably has something to do with more surface area. Stump cookies and wedges fall in that category too. They dry quickly. I save them for fall and spring and for emergency wood or campfires. I'd cut everything into 4" cubes if it wouldn't be such a pain to process, handle and store them.

It’s like riding a scooter. It’s a lot of fun until your friends catch you.

Maybe like this? Very basic, but on a pallet and stores about 1/2 cord. Been burning some this season. I likes my uglies!

Something like that!!! I'm thinking a decent size bin, like 8'x8'. Toss the uglies and chunkies in there, and when I'm desperate go grab them and sneak them in the house, one or two under each arm, under the cover of darkness.

How long would you say those are? It’s quite amusing as they look a similar size to what I have to cut my normal splits to fit in the stove :bug:

We do all the above. Love chunks and shorties. Pack the stove tight at night, save the limb wood and cull stuff for our own use too. They even have their own box on one side of the stove. IMG_20161108_061120751.jpg IMG_20161108_061001094.jpg have a 5x10x6 1/2 shed for limb wood, with a little jig to cut it on. 11139.jpeg 11141.jpeg For storing the chunks, we use 55 gal drums or plastic pallet bins

Bins are almost 4x4x4, I fasten 2 metal roofing panels on top.
