I re-discovered a couple barn finds I had forgotten about. What should I do with them? 20191201_111418.jpg

Remove the rust, then paint them. Then figure out what to do with them.

Restoring them for decorative or useable status?

If you're planning on making them useable, better make sure your insurance will allow it.......

As cool as they are unless a museum someplace wants them they are probably best turned into washing machines.

Oh that pot belly stove is beautiful! I'd love to have one on a deck/porch .

I just clicked quickly through that restoration vid. You'll need a "manual" charger for an electrolysis tank. and a big tank for those PB stove pieces.

If you have a "large" outdoor patio area, you could install a pipe on your larger parlor stove and make a fall/winter outdoor type heater. Put a wire brush on a 4-1/2" grinder and clean it up! Nice paint job and use it! Quite unique  Your little "IDEAL" if it's all intact, there are collectors out there just for "IDEAL" stoves. Good luck.

Welder Dave beat me to it. The fancy chimineas and patio burners they sell have nothing on your stoves. They would be ideal candidates for an outside patio stove with a pipe.

Thanks all. I will clean up the Parlor stove and use it outside. Great suggestion! After disasembling it, I found the "firebox" base is cracked. Best use will have to be outside after creating some sort of liner, perhaps firebrick. The Ideal pot belly has a broken door at the hinge (left side). I'm not well versed on Ideals, but this one has pipe fittings on a built in boiler....of sorts. Upon further inspection, the Parlor stove finial is a basket design and appears to have a lion heads on both sides of the basket. It also appears there was some sort of an "emblem" attached to the front of the belly and I am taking the liberty of assuming it was also a lions head based on the outline of where the emblem was mounted. Purely speculation at this point.

I finally got the parlor stove done. Still waiting for replacement door pins to show up, but for the most part I am done. This one is a little lack luster without the nickle plated finial. My research indicated it was all black. 20200323_151228 (1).jpg

I really like the chiminea/patio burner idea! During the heat of the summer you can open the door and put a pot with a burst of red flowers coming out of it. You have done a nice job of restoration. Now fire that baby up!

High temp silver paint is pretty brilliant...maybe that would suffice to spruce it up...unless you'd rather stick with original/correct...
I like the summer flower pot idea...I envision red/orange Gerbra Daisys

No flower pots, and no washing machines. They are good enough as conversation pieces and history preservation. Consider yourself lucky to own them, and pat yourself on the back for not scrapping them and for taking the efforts you did with them. If nothing else, I'm sure some old hardware store or old mom and pop restaurant would love them for conversation pieces. If they can be used by simple modifications, by all means use them...gently...and enjoy them. Using them increases the conversations. LOL!!
