I have been wanting to add a log cradle to my splitter. I picked one up today, that I thought would work but it was going to require I drill 5 holes in the beam to make it work. So I got on line and looked around a little and found a bargain for under $5. + $16 shipping. Black Diamond Log Cradle Once it gets here I'll see if it will need modified. If so I'll have saved $30.
Dang it, I was just in Rural King today but the crowd was getting on my nerves so bad I had to leave. I went ahead and got a six volt battery for the old girl since RK has 10% off everything in the store on Black Friday. I could have picked up a cradle. Just checked, they were out of stock in the store so I couldn't have picked up one after all.
sweet deal, one thing I think you might want to modify is adding a lip around it so the logs don't want to just shimmy off it. The one for my countyline has it and I'm really glad it does. One of those things you probably don't think of until using it.
That looks like the one i bought for more than 5 bucks, but, i did end up making it a little bigger, didn't take much, BUT, it did work, and is a pretty good cradle for the money that's for sure. I just thought i needed a little bigger one, and modified it a little bit. GOOD BUY!!
Looks like what came on my Huskee. If I were to get a new one, I'd reinforce the ends. Mine are pretty bent.
I mounted a vise on mine it does double duty, keeps wood on the table and holds a saw for touching up the chain.
Well, the log cradle arrived today. After enlarging the holes on my splitter beam it was a perfect fit. It is a little smaller then I expected, but I'm going to modify it a little anyway so it's really not that big a deal.
Made a log cradle for my splitter out of part of the steel pallet it the splitter came on. Left the frame on the end so the splits don't roll off and tilted it away from the engine so if the vibration causes the splits to slide it slides away form the mechanical components. Nice thing about making it yourself is, if you can't get the OEM version, it can fit exactly using existing holes in the beam and you design it to your spec. KaptJaq
that is the EXACT cradle i bought, but, i did extend it, and make it just a shade wider as well. Now its even better by far. And, your right its not a big deal to do.
This cradle is now listed as limited supply; I guess they only get a few in each location. I may see if I can go up next week and see.
