I did something stupid on Thanksgiving evening and I have been in some serious pain since. Black Friday backing the car up the drive I twisted to see out the rear window and that was stupid as well. I really pulled the muscles in my left side. It was getting better so I decided to clean up the front garden leaves before the rains came in and I guess dragging the leaves behind the back veggie garden did something else. I woke up in the night in intense pain worst than before. I haven't gotten out since. I couldn't even pick up firewood. I need to head to the Post Office and see about the shipping boxes for Secret Santa; don't want Santa to be late. I was suppose to be running the saw again but I don't think that is a good idea at the moment. Hopefully tomorrow I can feel like getting out and can stop at the Post Office.
I ran out of ibuprofen; I should have rang my sister and got her to pick up some as well as those stick on warming pads. I tried to go to sleep but it hurts worst stretched out in bed than sitting up. It was getting better before I raked the leaves and pulled the tarps. I didn't think I was doing that much, the leaves were dry but I guess it was the lifting to add to the pile. I use the leaves for mulching the veggie garden. I need to cut some dry wood; if not, then find someone that has dry wood. I am going to see if I can get some sleep, it is after 2 am here.
That does not sound like fun. It is not neccessarily the weight that hurts, it is the angle of the movement that puts things out of wack. Hopefully everything goes back into place soon!
I gave up trying to sleep in my bed last night, it kept hurting and cramping, hurting and cramping. So I grabbed a blanket and slept sitting upright on the sofa. I need to get my gift package together before I can ship it out.
That is true but she will say, "You strained the muscle; take ibuprofen, rest, and let it heal." I have too much work though but will do light duty stuff until I can do more.
Sisters were going shopping but I opted out. Sister 1 dropped of some ibuprofen and one of those stick on warming pads. Maybe I can venture out with them tomorrow. I can stop by the PO to pick up the shipping boxes.
Icy-hot and the stick on pads seem to help. I hate that I am not getting any work done but I hurt it and then hurt it again. Sister 1 said she would bring her blowers up and help with the leaves on Thursday so I want to be able to be out working on Thursday.
Yeah, take it easy and you'll probably feel better in a couple of days. I agree, going to a doctor for something like this is pretty useless. Now if it continues by the end of the week, that may warrant a little concern by then.
Careful with the pain pills as they will give you a false sense of security/feeling healed and then you'll really damage it if you work. Now, with that being said, I have to comment on the other mentioned issue that no one else has commented on. (Don't go getting hurt feelings now) You have been a member here for almost 4 years now. Back when you started, members here were telling you to get ahead on your wood pile, remember? You would have been all set now!
If it was a prescription pill, yeah, be careful, but ibuprofen, that's no issue. Most doctors recommend taking a couple of ibuprofen daily if you're over 35.
Ibuprofen is an anti inflammatory; so it helps with the cause of the pain and not just blocking the pain receptors. It is fairly easy on the liver as well. Acetaminophen, on the other hand, is very hard on the liver and there are estimates; at least at one time, that a lot of the liver failures are due to taking Acetaminophen.
The back of my knee started hurting bad at work 2 weeks ago. Everybody said I just twisted a muscle or something "basic" like that and in 3 days it will be better. It didn't, found out yesterday I have a Bakers cyst that's almost 3.5" and I have a tear in my meniscus(MRI said so). Maybe it is something worse and a visit to a DR would be a good idea.
Sorry to hear about your condition. I have heard about Bakers cysts. Well, I really don't have a doctor to see. I think I have just let the core muscles get weak; there is a band of muscles that wrap around your torso. I started exercise at one time then stopped. My main job is computer work and I sit for too many hours.
I know it sounds counter intuitive, but the number one first aid for these kinds of injuries is and ice pack. Not heat, ice. 15 minutes on, and 20 minutes off. Repeat a few times if needed and gently stretch afterward. Single best natural anti-inflammatory in existence is Turmeric & Ginger root. Manifold better than ibuprofen with no harmful side effects at all. Also agree with YooperDave, pain killer's let you push too far too soon and extend the injury.
