Hickory score

I've been looking at this tree for months on the neighbors ground. I didn't know what it was so I thought i'd run over and take a look and see if its any good. Gave the neighbor a quick call and she said go get it.
So Ruger and i suit up and head over.

Its a hickory!....Saweeet!!!
I haven't got to the stump yet but it looks like it should be in the 16-20" range.

I have been burning some 4 year old pignut.....good stuff

 

This is only the 2nd hickory I've ever got. The 1st was just about a year ago so I've never burned any.
I have made some bowl blanks and one bowl though.

Pignut is good. I hauled half a face cord from the woods last week.

 

Good for you TD, it is always nice when we get a species of wood we don't normally find. It's nice to see how it's performs compared to what we usually stack. Variety is the spice of life.

 

Yeah, well my Wife, doesn't like it so much, if I say "A Little Variety is Nice", but of course TIMING is Everything with that

I'm glad I read on before I posted, I was gonna say the same thing as you.

 

Is hickory scare near you TurboDiesel or just the "luck of the hoarder draw" you never find/get any of it? Sounds like me with locust. My first two scores were in October.

 

Great score Tim. The pignut seems to dry a little faster than the shagbark i drag home. From your pics I'm guessing the tree is green. Say hi to Ruger and the boss for us.
