Have 3 fires going tonight, wife wanted ambiance with dinner tonight so light the upstairs fireplace which I never use. The downstairs insert is the primary heat, and the garage fisher rockin. Everything is toasty tonight.
Last time I tried to have a fire when people were over for holidays, everyone complained about being too hot...
People do the same at my house. There use to paying a lot to heat there's house and not use to it being 80f in the tv room I guess? Haha Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

Makes me wish that I’d of put a wood fire place up stairs when we built our house. Put gas in instead and we NEVER turn it on. I think I would have used wood upstairs in special occasions and really really cold nights.
My insert is on. Burning 1 piece of oak at a time on a mostly closed damper. 45 and windy outside. 75 inside. If I wanted I could get to 80 easy. So freakin efficient
Roughly 250 btu's per body. In my small house, get 10-12 people over, it better be in the mid teens outside or the windows open.
Same here, I have to barely keep the stove going while people are over. One split every couple hours. It gets up to 75 f pretty easy and everyone’s too hot, and the stove is in the basement. Just pumps out the heat
Those fires sure look cheery & festive. There's a lot to be said for a fireplace on special occasions.
Growing up we always went to my aunt n uncles place for Christmas because they had a big ole farmhouse, with a large family room added on...and an open fireplace. It was always nice having that fire...warm near it, not so warm away from it. Fast forward to having my own home and everybody over for the holidays...smaller house for one, the second part of the equation is insert stove instead of regular ole open fireplace...and all this coupled with lots of cooking...equals hot house! Guess I should have left the open fireplace so I can actually use it when more than 4 people are in the house!
