I'm a CAD Light weight, only 8 Huskies from the 23 Compact, Top Handle, to the 3120XP with 36", 44" and 60" Bars

Bought my First Husky "Ol' Reliable" a 266XP in '91 and still have it.

Then I found another chainsaw forum and CAD struck Big Time

Another member there told me to check out this site as well, and Here I am

The 3120XP is about 2 years old, I bought it in September 2017.

The 395XP is the newest in my Collection, Er, uhm, ah, Addiction, I bought it this September, and the 390XP and 550XP, I bought this April.

The 3120XP, did see a bit of firewood duty in 2018, using the 36" bar, but it is mainly used for milling, especially with this years addition of the 390XP and 395XP's.

Yep, it does look like we have similar tastes in saws

Growing up, my Dad had a Mac SP 60, a Helluva saw for it's time, that is what I learned on, so in '91 after having bought my first home with a fireplace, I went shopping for a saw.
Naturally, I was looking at Yellow and Black, by then Mac had been bought by Black and Decker I believe, and well, SADLY Mac just wasn't the saw I grew up with anymore

Internet research wasn't then what it is now, but I knew people that owned Stihls, and people with Huskies, LISTENED to what each had to say, RAN some of each, and spent a lot of time at dealers looking at saws.

In the end, I decided that BOTH Stihl and Husqvarna built QUALITY tools (and Stihl Do) BUT, at the time, I felt that I got more saw for my money with Husky(Stihl seems True Today too) and the 266XP was the best fit for my needs at the time, more than 28 years later, I think that I made the Right choice, it was my 1 saw plan for a couple years before adding the 23 Compact for light duty chores, and that Dynamic Duo served my needs well for almost another quarter Century before adding the 3120XP.

Where we cut now, we see a lot more Bigger wood than what I cut in the past, and I was seriously looking at a 395XP, then the perfect storm happened leading me to the 3120XP, I NEEDED a Bigger saw than the 266XP, we have a D Fir slab Dining room table that is Beautiful, just too small, and my Wife wants a Larger table, looking at it, I thought "I Could do that", and then I found Dave "The Chainsaw Guy" in BC selling NIB 3120XP's for only a couple hundred more than a 395XP, that was a No Brainer.

I always thought the 266 was a Dayum Fine do almost anything saw, but I kept reading about 50cc saws and how handy they are, so I found a Very Nice 353 for a fair price, I never knew just how much I "NEEDED" a 50cc until I started using that 353, and ended up adding the 550XP OE after that, and the 390XP, I needed something bigger than the 266, but the 3120 is overkill most the time.

This year, the wood has been smaller, and the 50cc saws have done the majority of the cutting, with the 390 only getting used a couple times, and the 3120 has stayed home this season, the 395 arrived a bit too late to get used this season

In 2017 my Wife wanted "Her Own Saw"so she got a 445 for Christmas (That is HER saw, not in my 8 saw count for "MY" collection/addiction)

Well, Gotta run, the wife wants to go cut some Cedar Boughs for Wreaths and Garland

Absolutely perfectly crappy weather day here.
Good day to get back to the bench. Cleaning up this 61 and check squish. I do think I’ve come across a cylinder like this one.
Seems to be semi-ported.
It looks like the gasket was in the way, taking up some of that port area. See if I can fix that

 

What’s interesting, is that it doesn’t seem to matter if I cut that gasket. The case isn’t a match for the cylinder at the port area.
Cylinder is part number 5035321. It doesn’t come up on the internet. 5035321 does, and that’s a p/c kit for the 61.
Am I missing something?

 

I have 3 saws right now. Sthil 180, 036, and 044. Picture is of the 044. For the last 3 months it has been giving me problems. Won't idle correctly, it will run fast at idle alot but flogging the throttle will bring idle down. Adjusting the needles has poor to no response. This week it idles very fast at start then floods. My first guess is a new carbonator and new tank line.

Sounds that it could be running lean.
Visual check for cracked rubber between the carb and cylinder. Boot and impulse line.
A pressure/vacuum test would be next and since you have the carb out, clean it and add rebuild kit. I don’t think I would replace the carb yet.
When you say it floods, does it die when you goose the throttle or does it actually die while idling and you’ve verified that it’s actually flooded?

 

It dies when I pull the throttle. And idles fast no matter the carb setting....that sounds like a leak of sorts. It will die at idle also. I had fuel pour out of the carb after pulling the trigger.I smokes heavy when it runs, for short time it runs. The tank line is swelled up and the line on the carb is green with copper oxide. I've run it for 2 years but it may have the factory carb on it. My father didnt run the saw for awhile because he torn his shoulder apart and can't use the high compression pull start. I have changed the fuel filter and spark plug after I got it. I have no ethenol gas with Stihl mix, but I'm using premix to test

 

I’d replace boot, impulse and fuel lines. Clean / rebuild the carb with a carb kit. Reset the jets to OEM settings and take it from there.

Only thing I would add is the crank seals. It's a older saw, and they might be leaking.

 

I'm thinking about it. Without a leak test it's a replace and try again. I might try the small engine guy down the road just to do a leak test. I can do all the hoses and boots.

It has great compression and the cylinder looks really good. I opened up the muffler a bit after I got it and removed the carb limiters. It's never idled well since I've run it the first time years ago. It wants to keep the chain running after a cut unless I flog the throttle unloaded. But in the past it always idled and ran well. I made do until I got a 036 this fall. Now I don't feel bad being one saw down.

 

Crack in the fuel line is my guess. Sucking wind. Sometimes you can’t see them.

 

Put on a new ring and pulled out the gasket. Got down to about 027 on squish.
Ordered a muffler, chain brake/clutch cove and a rebuild kit for the Tilly HS163A that’s on there.

 

Took today off to do a bunch of things; cut squash and rutabaga, bring out the snow blower, welcome the daughter home from school.
Also got a few minutes to mess with this guy that I grabbed from a scrap pile. New spark plug and some Blaster soak and it’s alive. 95cc Direct Drive Sears/David Bradley.
I’ll mess with it some more and see if I can get some cuts in.
