I went by the local farm supply store today and noticed they are now selling Blackstone pellets. The name is familiar but I don't know anything about them so I looked them up. Made in Hartford, Ct. With as many people from CT and surrounding area on this site and no one is burning these, I assume they're junk. Is that assumption accurate?
I didn't have such a bad experience with them and I burned a ton of them but was a few years ago. I would rate them as you mediocre hardwood pellet as they produced good heat and had fair amount of ash . Kept the shack warm for the duration of burning them just was the hardwood cleaning exercise that I gave them up , well I should clarify more then the Northern Max but less or about the same as NEWP . Once again it was a few years ago when i toasted them. I would say worth grabbing a few bags Sub
Finally got the stove setup, and burned the first bag of 'Satisfaction' (LG) pellets purchased this season. Lots of short pellets (avg. 1/2 inch) and pieces in the bag, and a bit more dust (vs. years past), but still very good heat, and average ash. Ash is still on the heavier side: no more or less vs. years past. Still smell like Black Spruce and Grey Pine pellets to me, nothing to indicate the mix has changed any. With some slight feed and combustion air adjustments, these pellets are burning well in the stove here. Aside from the batch being shorter / a little dustier vs. last year ... still liking the Satisfaction pellets here. Starting to stock up this week. Break-even on fuel oil (and off-road Diesel) vs. Pellets is just about even at this point. Bag sales have increased in price locally, per/ton pricing is still good. Feedback is that trucking & plant cost increase is the reason. Makes sense, everything seems to cost a bit more these days. ... We may be using the FHA "Dino Burner" furnace a bit more, this season. Regards, Rob
Thanks for the update Rob. Glad to hear those satisfactions are still burning very consistently for you.
Cold fronts...lol....next time I'm hoping for a polar vortex I'll just fix up to get a couple ton of them
