Finally bought a riding mower..

    Been cutting the grass all these years with a self propelled lawn mower and finally decided it was time for a rider.. Mowing typically takes 2-3 hrs. not including weed whacking now I should be done in about an hr.. :) Picked this mower up on CL which is about a year old for $600.00 which sells for about $1000.00 new.. Seems to work very well so far..

    LOL I mowed the field with a beer bottle in the holder.. Had to break it in! :)

    Nice. Make sure you check the valve lash every year or so. When they get out of adjustment the compression release won't work and the starter has a hard time turning the engine over. :)

    Definitely much faster Dave! Climbs hills like nothing but have a couple too steep to climb but can go downhill OK.. This mower has power to spare for sure!

    I'm sorta kinda looking forward to a yard I can push, if we get this place sold soon. Or something I can mow in five minutes with my 60" zero turn :D

    Ray, just an FYI......be careful on hills. Get some chains. 100% better when I plow.:thumbs:
    I get down in the front ditch (most of it), and it's a bit steep, so I lean in the opposite direction until it gets too steep.
    I either weed whack the rest, use the push mower, or just leave it (which drives me crazy).

    Woe can't believe that you could have gone all those years with a push mower!!! Riders are deffinitly worth the investment in time saved. I only have about half an acre that I now here at my house of the whole 3/4-1 that I live on and I dont think I could stand the time to push my yard.

    My MIL lives on an acre or so of riverfront, a narrow but deep lot with a great sledding hill. She started complaining that her JD mower wouldn't make it up the hill anymore when mowing, so she would mow down and just drive up, turn around and repeat. I looked at it for a minute, told her to get on it and show me. I then got on it, went down and turned around and mowed back uphill. Turns out she was flooring the hydro pedal at the bottom, and the motor would stall out coming up. That was what I figured was happening, and I explained to her that it wasn't a gas pedal, and that she needed to ease off the pedal when it started to bog. Took a while, but she finally wrapped her head around it.

    Also the drive belt to the hydro motor can be loose. Causing it to feel like your loosening power or trans slipping or just can't go up it. If you tighten the belt it will work better if this is the case.

    Yeah, but there was no slipping involved. The motor would almost stall.

    I used a self-propelled mower never a push mower here.. Keeps my legs in shape though.. Yup 1st one ever.. So far I like it.. Much faster for sure.. I went from 22" per pass down to 19" and now up to 42" per pass.. Cutting the 300' long field takes less than 10 minutes now lol..
