This fell in my nieghbors yard in March befor any leaves where on it. She said I could have it. Might be close to 2 cords whatever it is. The splits have a distinct yellow to themnot sure if its obvious in picture
It's surrounded by what looks like white oak leaves. But, I don't think it's white oak. Bark and wood don't look right.
That’s 100%.... Ailanthus altissima or Tree of Heaven. It’s an invasive species from Asia. But it is hardwood. And it burns VERY well. It’s all over the place in Denver. I burn a ton of it. It’s bark and yellow color when split, is distinctive of Ailanthus. Not sure why my typing is bold. I don’t mean to yell.
I don't think I've even seen a tree of heaven in person. Well, not that I'm aware of, because I've been to Denver.
They are everywhere. They are kinda cool looking. They look kinda tropical when they are bloomed out. They are a weed though. They will overtake your yard quick if you let them.
Yep tree of heaven. Cut down a bunch of weeds last year. As I remember a little less btu than tulip/poplar. Saw reports that it’ll,rot fast even in the stacks. Haven’t burnt any yet so no first hand knowledge. all that being said I’m a fan of tulip,,,,to an extent. Clean, fast easy heat. Just doesn’t last long. Still has a place and purpose. Here it is latish November and I’m still burning mostly tulip and Catalpa with some ash uglies thrown in.
Reading on tree of heaven says it will kill the trees around it. There were some small maples that were very close to it.
That’s not necessarily true. I cut those things down all the time that are intermingled with other trees. I’ve noticed that they will kill some trees and not others.
Why would a tree from heaven kill other trees around it? Just doesn’t seem right. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks everyone, i knew what it was but couldnt get it out. Cut some once MANY years ago. Havent seen one in years either.
Tree of Hell, I mean Heaven. Only reason some is in my stacks is because they try to take over my fence line. Considered junk wood around here.
