Left my "I wouldve bet this was ash and lost" non score today and had some time so i went where ive cut a couple times in the last two weeks. Asplundh work. The area had huge white oak trunks to be felled which they finally did. My "competition" was there sometime before i got there and took one trunk. He didnt touch all the uglies and cookies i left behind. More Mingo marks on the hickory and he took all the red oak as well. Left the uglies. Wonder if he is a hand splitter like me? Not a full load but okay for the time i had. The wood for the next cutting. Should yield a full PU full. Dont know if my sign keeps other hoarders at bay? Tricky terrain. Saplings, "divots" from falling logs, vines, branches, etc. A small hill too make retrieval more difficult and hazardous Have to fill out one stack and room for another. Face cord per row. Splitting i did yesterday. White oak and hickory.
Looks awesome! Do you know the tree guys personally? Do you hook them up with some beer or coffee or anything for the holidays? I’m so jealous of that hookup.
I do not and its not really a hook up either. Just watching where they cut and doing what a hoarder does best. Its all less than a mile from home too! There is a few crews who work several days and then are gone then back again. Guy i did some saw work for told me of their cutting here. Right around the corner from him just off a main road. Ive been scoring wood from their work for two months now and on the main roads only. This was a side road. I have access to a lot more of their cuttings but am picky about what i take. If i had a big area to dump load after load then id be grabbing a lot more. Eventually it has to end! I have a few other scores lined up for the Winter.
That makes sense. I was thinking you knew the guys personally. It would be different then. I’d probably just do the same thing.
