I haven't run a complete saw but have purchased replacement parts from farmtech. It's hit or miss. I bought a used Stihl 036 cheap that needed some parts replaced. The clutch drum showed up so warped it wouldn't fit in a saw. It had almost 0.100" total run out. The cage bearings I bought have a softer plastic than OEM but work as backup bearings. Metal side cover for fit and works great. Paint is lower quality. Pull rope works fine.

My take is basic parts are fine. Parts that require accurate size and tolerances to function are questionable.

I use 3/8s 50 gauge Oregon LG. I use both full comp & semi-skip ground with my grinder. I cut 60% softwood and grind a less aggressive (rakers) full comp chain for hardwood (Tan Oak & Black Walnut). I purchased a loop of the ripping chain from Granberg years ago & found I spent more time sharpening that chain than cutting with a normal chain filed with the grinder. I use both Silvey RazorSharp & the Silvey HD-4 Raker Grinder. With those tools I'm able to bring 3 extra chains & mill most of a 6 hour day. IMG_0186 (3).JPG
