Intended to go and get the remaining wood this afternoon but Asplundh had returned and was working right there on more of the big standing pines. Had another roadside area to cut so went there instead.

It's all part of the hunt! A few winters from now, when the wind is howling, the snow is swirling and the thermometer is reading below zero, you'll be saying how glad you are for getting the difficult sugar maple scroung! Well done.:salute:

I was able to get back in there today. Asplundh was nowhere to be found. Bucked up everything. Forgot the peavey to roll the trunk and finish the cuts. Luckily right up the street from home. Had to noodle most of the bigger ones to load. First pic when i got there. IMG_1335.JPG IMG_1337.JPG
8' section i could not roll and probably couldve broken the peavey if i pushed any harder. Had to buck halfway and hit some dirt. IMG_1347.JPG IMG_1348.JPG
The last 4' section still wouldnt budge. Big knot buried 6" into the ground. I miss my nice roadside knot free oak trunks. IMG_1351.JPG IMG_1352.JPG Still three big rounds left to take. Found a small pignut hickory among all the EWP. Didnt see it the other day. Bucked it all up and will grab it next time IMG_1341.JPG IMG_1340.JPG IMG_1339.JPG
pine and hickory grew into each other. Last pic the pile of hickory rounds ill get next time. Have a mound of maple nuggets too. IMG_1353.JPG

Wish I had a hookup like yours! I have an Uncle in Michigan. His property needs to be thinned badly. It’s all primo hardwood. I’m getting more and more tempted to hook my big tandem axle trailer to my truck and drag it out there to help him and get some nice free hardwood. It’s just such a long trip:picard:

That would be tough. I think its illegal to transport wood over state lines. Pretty sure it is around here although ive brought wood to my step daughters in Rhode Island. Shhhhh!

Yeah, I think there are rules about it. I’ve also brought wood to a friend in New Mexico... allegedly.

Went today and loaded the hickory rounds. Filled about 1/3 the PU. Bucked and sectioned the last of the maple. Another 1/3 of the PU. Dont ask me why but i bucked some of the chestnut and filled out the load. My friend got more of the maple and chestnut.
I split all the hickory and stacked it. IMG_1358.JPG log on the right is pine and was left behind. Mound of nuggets/cookies on left of truck will get picked up this week. IMG_1359.JPG IMG_1357.JPG IMG_1362.JPG
The wood for my friend. Maybe about a cord. White oak far left is mine. IMG_1360.JPG
All the hickory from today in closest stack. Have the white oak and hickory to split first to fill up a couple more rows then i can fill it with my share of the maple. Ill be splitting away this week.

Looks great, buddy. I know you hate pine, but it pains me a bit. I’ve got a great Ponderosa fire going right now.
