This will be the second one I have acquired in a month or so. I bought a "so cheap I couldn't turn it down" Yanmar 186 a month ago as a project for one day. And then last weekend this one. IMG_20191109_114628626.jpg

I have kind of wanted a cub or some other really old tractor for years. But what makes this tractor special is that it's my grandad's tractor!! I went and visited my second cousin who got it 20+ years ago when my grandad went into a nursing home. He used it to garden. So anyway I went to let him know if he ever thought of getting rid of it to let me know first because I would be interested in it. He told me he still had it and said let's go up to the shed and look at it. (I also kind of avoided this trip for years fearing he might of got rid of it and I didn't want to hear that). Well he tells me it was a cub , I actually was thinking it was an A. And said it's a small tractor and if I wanted something to pull a bush hog this was not it. I said no I just want to have it cause it was my grandad's and I want to ride my son on it, ride around and maybe cultivate the garden for fun. He said well this is the perfect tractor. He said it will need a regulator he thinks, and the wireing redone as the cloth is rotting off the wires. He said He has everything for it, all the tool bars, sweeps, a one disk plow, a pull harrow I think he said, planter, planter boxes and cultipacker wheel, a sickle bar mower. He asked if I wanted to restore it or what, and I said , no I want to get it running well and leave it just like it sits, just how I grew up remembering it and how my grandad used it. He said that I could have it!! And that he hadn't ever gotten rid of it over the years cause it was my grandad's. I couldn't believe it, and said sure I would love to have it and thank you so much!!!

I will need to pick it up sometime, but I am not in a hurry as it's busy time of the year but I can't wait, I may end up with it sooner than I think. I have wanted this tractor for years!

Don't let it sit. Take the time and go get it. Word will get out that he gave it away and someone else will want it and then it is on. When it is at your house, it is yours. Until then????? Great job, good job on the second cousin for holding on to it and giving it to you. I'm just saying, seen it happen over and over again. My partner in a herd of Shorthorns told me when he died his saddle was mine. He died, his son who hates horses kept it just to sell it for a $100.00. Just my advice, go get it and give that cousin a gift certificate to a local cafe.

That is awesome! I know exactly how you feel! My grandpa bought this tractor new in 1990. Fell in love with it and always wanted it. When i heard he was selling the farm in 2017, i immediately called him and asked if i could buy the tractor. He told me no because he already gave it away.... To my son!!!!!!! So we took the truck and trailer and trucked it home 750 miles!

I have always wanted a cub to play around with. Want to put a bench seat all the way across to hold a small passenger!:D

    Awesome!
I wish I could've gotten my grandpa's cub. That thing was mint. He used it to mow his suburban corner lot. I know he got strange looks, but Gramps didn't care what others thought.

Already joined Farmallcub.com forums. Amazing the experts. I have a lot to learn. I am pretty good mechanic and good with all my stuff. But this thing dates from a more simple time and some technology that has been surpassed and is not found on anything anymore.

I have learned all kinds of things already that I have never felt with.

My neighbor who is now deceased across the street from me in this rural town (pop 100) had two Cubs he mowed with. One had a belly mower and one had a more rough cut mower, think bush hog. I think the latter mower he made or designed for it. The belly finish mower was what ever factory was. I know woods made one not sure if Farmall/international ever did? But those things ran perfect. He only mowed with them a year or two at Max before his cancer had him down and then he passed from it.
