COLD day with a good wind chill. Record low high temps in the low 30's. Had to break out the long Johns and ski cap. (I wear that backwards too MikeInMa and T.Jeff Veal  )
I was going to finish up the sugar maple from Monday, but Asplundh was right there cutting the big pines so i opted for another area i cut last Wednesday. (wood from my "frozen rounds" thread came from here) Decided to put my sign up to protect my claim when i left last week and it worked. Wasnt a yard, just a wooded area across from a school. When i found it someone had already been cutting. Some nice wood. White oak and hickory. Cut only he knot free stuff. Left the gnarlies, cookies and chunks for the next guy. Three separate areas right in a row and i finished the first today. IMG_1324.JPG IMG_1325.JPG

the prior guy mustve had some sort of Mingo marker based on the paint marks. IMG_1327.JPG
Good truck full in 2 1/2 hours. Had to buck a couple hickories at the second area to fill out the load. I wasnt taking shorties. Notice my buddies up the street. IMG_1328.JPG
Been a while since ive cut this many small rounds. About 40% of the load. Reminded me of a Woodwhore load! There was several even smaller diameter limbs i left. They didnt chip them. I think the rest is all hickory.
Moved my sign and made a second. Hey its hickory!
Ive staked my territory countless times but never my claim!
    Onward i hoard!

Nice haul! I personally like those smaller rounds. Just chuck them in whole. No hand splitting needed. Then just a split or two at home and stack em! I rarely split the big dogs before I load them into my truck. I just squat them in. My back doesn’t always love me for it though.

I see you are 37. If i was that young again i wouldnt flinch lifting the big ones as a whole, even in sections flip flopping them. A back injury from January (herniated disc) keeps and reminds me that im not as invincible as i once thought i was.
    Hoard on my friend.

Ahh i remember when i was 37, now at 45 big difference. Enjoy my young friend, enjoy. I just started splitting the big rounds in half maybe if i did that years ago i wouldnt feel like i do now. Pinched-nerves, bulged discs, herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, arthritis. I hang upside down on an inversion table thats what keeps me goin

    Nice work buZZsaw BRAD.

Am starting to notice the recovery time is what is changing. I can still do everything I pretty much once did physically but take me longer to recover. My body still gets use to it after a few consecutive days of heavy work, good ole muscle memory.

Ha! And when you get to my age, there is no such thing as recovery time. It is the same no matter what. I sometimes laugh when I think about how we used to take small breaks then go right back at it. It was really nice to stop for a meal as that was a longer break. Now I can break for hours or days and there is no difference... Such is life, I guess.
