Woke up to 11* out 65* in. Filled the stove with oak, ash and cherry. It was actually 71* in the little room at the top of the basement steps but 65* in the room right next to it. Time to get the little floor fan out...
24° this morning, wind chills in the teens. To my surprise blower was still cranking this morning from a big ole piece of Cherry from LN and about 70° in family room. New load of cherry in the hole! Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk
Very very "rarely" do we see 23º in November but here it is at 0630 in South Jersey! Got some 5 year old oak in Grandma, room temp is balmy 80º and we are slow cooking with stack temp at 300º
Winter is back! -3 chill factor this morning. Burning some nice dry beech. 72 inside and climbing Been a crazy summer and fall around here and I’m almost ready to slow it down for a bit. Hope you all had a great summer! I fired up the Fireview for the first time on 10/28 and it’s been going pretty steady since.
23* here also at the NJ shore. Burning some 3 year dried red oak in the Fireview. 73* in the living room.
25 here this morning at my home in upstate SC. Loaded all white oak last night. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk
18° right now, burning red oak nuggets I have stored in these feed bags. Stove chow! I have 6 of these bags full, maybe I can get through them today. They're kind of awkward to store. Welcome back Maina!
Just a heads up we just had November polar vortex . Ya they don't want call it that. But maps pretty much point it out if you watch the GFS forecasting . My boiler even acted strange do to strange barometric pressure changes. They felt it down in Louisiana. Sent from my LGL84VL using Tapatalk
Good news/bad news this morning. Good news is sometime last night, clouds moved in and we avoided the low temps!! Bad news is the clouds that moved in are now dropping snow. 12f for my morning walk. (only slipped once-fall averted!)
I can help you through that "awkward" sage if you choose. Bring those full bags down to UPS and send them to the U.P.
I threw on some silver maple this am to burn down coals from last night. I loaded the stove about 10 pm with a chunk of apple, and the rest ash. That was a nice bed of coals. It warmed up overnight. It was 8° at like 10pm, and when I went to bed it was 10°. 19° outside now. Wife's happy at home, so whatever temp it is inside is obviously fine.
ReelFaster, How does the heat from your insert affect the television above it? Any issues at all? I have my Ideal Steel down stairs in the basement and it heats the house well, but I have a large open masonry fireplace upstairs in the living room with a large tv above it and I've always wondered if I could put an insert in there to heat the living room if I didnt want to use the big IS.... Just curious
You should have seen it one year when we lived near Gaylord, MI. Another couple had moved there during the summer months. They came from about the middle of Ohio and thought they knew what winter was like. What an eye opener it was for them. I fondly remember going to his place one year on Easter Sunday. He had always went golfing on Easter in Ohio. We measured the snow in his yard that day and it was mostly 48" deep. They could hardly believe it and were gone before the following winter. lol
Didn't get down to zero last night but was mighty close. Fireview has been cooking. I looked once last night and it was at 690 degrees. Felt great too! Weather is supposed to moderate just a bit the next few days. Tonight only down around 20-23.
Coldest day so far and breezy. Loaded one 4" round of hickory and 3 dead fall white oak splits last night. Didn't pack it, nice little bed of coals this morning, one piece of tulip poplar and a couple oak splits, she was choochin again.
I can't answer for him regarding his TV, but I'd advise not putting a TV over the fireplace/ especially not an insert that is actually used like FHC'ERS do. The heat is not good for TV's, and it's not an ideal location due to the typical height of the mantle. Don't mount a TV above a fireplace Or another article.. Reasons not to mount a TV over your fireplace, and how to do it anyway..
