I’m pretty happy because I did not burn a single drop of oil . I’m wondering what others wood consumption rate is like ?

    What about ash removal ?

I lit the stove when highs were in the 20s it got cold fast I’d guess our week average was low twentys maybe upper teens ( lakes have mostly frozen over )
After my initial lightning I have been able to rake a little pile of coals have not had to re-light

Wood is Birtch , I don’t know the moisture content but it’s probably a bit higher than ideal . Was likely harvested and cut to 100” a year ago , css by me a month ago . 2 cords did not make my basement humid if that’s an indication of anything.

I’ve been running and even filling the wood stove with the gate in the back closed .
I’m fairly certain that it’s supposed to run closed , but it may be the opposite?

I doubt there are more than 1 or 2 other FHC members that even know what a K1 is, let alone how to run one!
I have only ever seen pics of 'em.
I think that you are talking about the bypass...which normally gets opened when loading, and closed when running.
Sounds like the ole girl is doing OK for ya, huh?
Decide what to do with the VF200 yet?

Unfortunately it’s not a vf200 . It’s Inbetween the k1 and the 200 Lamppa manufacturing does not seem to be in any hurry to freshen it up. I’m going to run the K1 this winter and revisit the 200 this spring

Is the k1 similar to the Vf-100, their current small unit? I forget the model number...my cousin is supposed to put one of those in his house here in a few weeks.

I wonder what the clearances are on the smaller unit? I have a down draft furnace oil burner in a closet that would be nice to replace with a unit like that if the clearances would work. Of course, I doubt if they can make it down draft through the floor. I’m not aware of any wood or coal unit to replace the Thermo-Pride with...although itself is built like a tank...just burns the wrong fuel. I need wood and/or coal.

Huh...I didn't know about the in between model either!
Its not that they are not in a hurry to rebuild yours...they are just completely slammed with orders right now! Dale just emailed me today about a parts order that is a few weeks old now...said they are working 10-12 hour days, and weekends to try and keep up! Ever since they became the only EPA certified wood furnace in the states...the dam has completely broken open for them! Moved into the new factory that is (I think) 4 times the size of the old one...then a couple weeks later decided to take the other half of the building too! That's some pretty crazy expansion...I'm sure that means there were new employees that had to be hired too. Glad for them, but I also know its not all a bed of roses for them during these growing pains times!

The VF100 is the large furnace...the VF200 is the smaller one...seems backwards, I know.
He must be getting the VF100 then...the 200 has not been made for a bit now due to having to get it through the EPA's 2020 testing...which I'm pretty sure is done now, just have to get everything finalized before they can start on what I'm sure is a looong list of orders for VF200's!
As for the CTC, I don't recall on the VF200 right now, but probably pretty similar/identical to the VF100...which is 6" sides, 48" front, 10" rear, 6" top of supply plenum. That 48" front might be a deal breaker for most closet installs. Need to check with Lamppa Mfg. for the exact VF200 CTC's though.
No solid fuel furnace is really "allowed" to be downdrafted on the ducts...but a workaround is to install an emergency heat dump door on the supply plenum...that would allow the furnace to dump its heat into the closet (which would have to have a louvered door I'm sure) in the event of power outage or equipment failure.
The only emergency heat dump door that I personally know of that is still available is the one made by Yukon furnaces...that's the one I used...well, it is kinda left over from when I had a Yukon wood/coal/oil furnace...but I still like having it as one more layer of protection...even though my ducts should gravity heat fine.

I’ve been to the new shop, I posted a picture of their vf100 .
Don’t remember where I saw a posting for an office/ computer/ web presence type person.
Probably wouldn’t have bought the stove had I known it wasn’t a 200.
I know where there is another k1 that’s not hooked up and looks to be in great shape I suspect I could buy it for cheap .

Great info. Thanks! Yeah ...the door is a problem. In the top of it is a cold air return...and you just triggered a memory for me. When I was a kid and my grandparents lived here there was a louvered door on the furnace closet. Hmmnnn! I wonder where that door got off to. Have to check above the garage. Not that I will need it, but just to see if it’s still around here. Can’t imagine Pap would have thrown it away.
With regard to size I just figured the smaller number meant a smaller unit. Just left there website and was poking around.
Only thing for me is I’m trying to totally do away with any heating requiring electric. Still might be an option from this oil burner though...even with the electric computer controlling the damper. There’s probably a way to use batteries maybe.

Lamppa told me they have lots of "off grid" types that use the VF200 due to its lower wattage blower...can run off their battery banks.
About the only modern wood furnace that I know of that can go powerless is the PSG Caddy/Max Caddy...the amish set them up in the basement with vents up through the floor...then they have a certain bi-metallic spring they put in to control the damper...been told by many people that it works really slick!

Good to know also. Only problem with that for me is I’m on a crawl space, two rooms are slab. If we stay here we may add on at some point and could plan for that for future when we’re much older. For now we like a stove though.

Just found this as well from our site here and took a look... https://www.garn.com/wp-content/uploads/general/emissions/GARN_EPA_PhaseII_NSPS_Explained.pdf . How would something like this compar to the others you’ve mentioned and the vf-200 you mentioned...for my situation...if they can be compared. Maybe there are even more and better options out there.

It has been averaging 40s daytime and low 30s to high 20s at night here lately. I have been burning about 60 to 70 lbs per day...which is about 8-10 20" splits (plus a few small rounds) for me. Keeps the house 72-73*, VF computer on low...where it will remain the majority of the winter...that burns about 4 lbs of wood per hour on average. Oh, been loading twice a day...usually can restart the fire on a few coals left, depending on the species and quantity of wood in the previous load.
It is going down into the teens here tonight, I loaded 42 lbs at 6:30 tonight, probably about the same load tomorrow morning at 6:30 too.
As for the ash pan...dump it twice per week when burning "ashy" wood (or lots of bark) to once a week when burning less ashy wood.

Still running the K1. Have not yet gone through the 2 cords I initially put in the basement. I’ve been away from the house for a couple days here and there so I’ve also burnt about 20 gallons of fuel oil.
